    Hi Ami2301and Steve51.
Well I became (disabled)after a mining accident 1983,resulting in me being bed bound for a considerable amount of time, then after various treatments I went under the knife so to speak and after three operations was worse off and told I wouldn't ever work again in any capacity, has i also had mental issues as well as physical ones.
Fast forward 15yrs and the Goverment at the time decided I was able to hold a job down and took me off benefits but I managed to get and keep my disability pension of 52% but as you realise it was a struggle because I had a partner and kids to provide for, anyway I was able too hold a job down but with days off sometimes weeks got made redundant after 9yrs.
So after a 12 week lay off got a job selling beds and carpets but little did I know what was to come,my partner got breast cancer and had to battle not only cancer but after her operation the wound site got badly infected so after 16 weeks of healing unfortunately resulting in a spell in mental hospital three times, because she tried to commit suicide three times.
I'm now a carer for her with family help we got by but unfortunately my mental illness worsened so had to go onto medication and counselling as I blame myself for not being able to be there for my
partner because of my own health issues.
Any way sorry for the long post but its because of a lot of issues and not just one thing.

I am terribly sorry for all that you, your wife, and your family have been through. Do you feel that counselling has helped in any way?

Hello @pedro2628 Thank you for your reply.

One thing I learnt with mental health is there are some solutions and answers. Not to cure the problems but to ease the situations.

All of us have had knockbacks, heartbreak and it seems a never ending hole we are in and get stuck in this rut. Clambering out if we can.

You are going for CBT . To some people this sometimes works in my case dealing with my mental health it did not.

I wish you well with any of that and hope it is the right course for you. One other suggestion after being with my illness. For over twenty plus year is to find coping methods and strategies.

Many mental health charities offer this in support group setting with other people.  Who are like your self. Only monthly meetings include courses on lifestyle, sleep and diet, medication, other factors.  Could be useful to consider.

I used mental health charities . One I used has a recovery programme. Involves setting goals and aims in a plan. That you set yourself with advice from a designated support worker.

Plus other contributory advice on benefits and sign posting you to relevant organisations that you could be useful to help you.

    Called https://wwwrichmondfellowship.org.uk.

    Hope that might help.

Using the tools they provide made me understand myself a lot better.

    Pleasure to meet you .

    Take care.

Hi to you spiceman.thanks for the info my friend re group therapies unfortunately I'm not to good in a group setting prefare one to one, I also received a gift of a cocker spaniel dog on my birthday in March which gave me an insenstive to take her out for walks but I think I wanted to run before I could walk and over done it re my back and damaged nerves put me on a downer and then my dad passing away unfortunately did me hence a trip to doc's and self referral to CBT. I had managed to control my back problem from 1983 till know but with other issues since 3yrs ago im in a dark place im fighting it but it totaly wipes me out most days.but tomorrow will be a better day

Hello @pedro2628 Thank you for the reply.

Sorry if this is difficult for you being in groups. It is one to one with your designated support worker they give you.  You are given a set of goals and aims.

Then the choice is yours to go to monthly meetings. Usually with other people like your self.

Just thought might be useful to you.

Sorry if that was not clear.

Always here if you want some one to listen.  Ask for anything, be a friend.  Have a chat maybe.

    Please take care.
