I have some hidden illnesses..ME, Fibromylagia plus osteoarthritis and sleep apnea. All have various symptoms which I'm sure fellow sufferers understand. Just thought I would say hi to everyone ☺

Hiya I have fibro and I just wondered how do you distinguish between your conditions as they probably overlap? Was it hard to get diagnosed?

    Hi debbiedo49
It took about 10yrs to finally get an ME diagnosis which I got from Dr Bansal at St Heliers Hospital, Sutton, Surrey. My GP diagnosed the fibro about the same time, i never saw a specialist for that..and the GP diagnosis has been accepted by medical professionals since.
Looking back at my health history it seems I got ME when I was about 14yrs but just thought the fatigue was normal. The fibro appeared in 2003. I had real flu in 2004 which made the ME much worse.
It hasnt been easy figuring out whether Im having an ME episode or fibro..as you say the symptoms are similar. I mostly tell people that its my fibro playing up because so many dont understand or accept ME..that applies to friends and professionals alike. Tho no medical professional has questioned my ME..they just accept fibro as a real illness. Even for claiming any benefit it has been better using fibro as my main condition.
How has it been for you getting your fibro diagnosed and accepted? xx
