Hello Wendival
Currently ESA are contacting people that they have underpaid, the main group of people effected are those that transferred from Incapacity Benefit to ESA. If this is the case here, it maybe that your son has been underpaid an extra amount of ESA called the enhanced disability premium. This premium is paid to those for example in the support group of ESA, OR for people in receipt of high rate care of DLA/enhanced rate of daily living of PIP.
Of course you will not know what exactly has been underpaid until ESA send out a decision letter detailing the error. But if is the enhanced disability premium then in 2013/14 the enhanced rate for a single person was £15.15 a week, in 2014/15 it was £15.55 a week, in 2015/16 and 2016/17 it was £15.75 a week, in 2017/18 it was £15.90 a week and 2018/19 it is £16.40 a week.
It maybe also worth seeking advice from a local advice centre or CAB once you get the ESA letter to ensure that the arrears payment is correct.
