It's how those conditions affect your ability to carry out daily activities based on the PIP descriptors. All conditions affect people differently. They very rarely contact anyone for evidence, the onus is on you to to prove you qualify not their's.

I have chrons disease and yes I have sent a letter from my ibd nurse and my specialist and the lady from my assessor has put on my report that I'm basically OK in regarding her ticking the top boxes but the information she has written down on my report even states how I have difficultys dressing bathing etc. It all just doesn't add up.
-
There is hayles I will be phoning up again on Friday to push my luck. Apparently if your due back dated money that tends to go into your account before you get your letter and it’s normally an indication you’ve got pip

I had my assessment done on the 15th December and am in same boat a little as I’ve scored way less than what the assessment lady wrote in the report only scoring 4 points in mobility when I can’t even drive my car and had to give up my car they have also put I can walk up to 200m witch is a lie I can’t even walk 50m. And I need all sorts of help with moving around using crutches everywhere I go I’m also blind in one eye and have Pfeiffer syndrome witch is only going to get worse I’ve rang up and they have put several nots on system ect and I got my report sent to me as soon as they had it looks like it m going to definitely appealing the decision I will have to wait and see

That's so upsetting, I have just received a text saying my written report is ready so I have requested a copy. I don't know what I will do if the same thing happens to me. Do you have any further evidence you could send to the DWP? My friend has just been awarded pip but she said when she asked the doctor and her pain consultant if the DWP had got in touch with either of them and they both said no! Which makes me think are the DWP only bacing their decisons on what has been sent to them through ourselves and the f2f assessments and not asking our health professionals for further information.

iv read a lot about them
not taking medical and other professionals into the decision they tend to only base it on what you’ve said and how the assessor has taken it. I hope you get the out come you want
-
Thank you, I don't know how I feel about that, I mean how can they form an all round decision without requesting some medical information. I mean the letters I sent in with my application covered most things but it's still a worry. I hope Adt1984 manages to get his correct award
-
I do agree I think they need to contact more people regarding how it effects your life and how these problems effect you long term rather than hearing from our mouths I struggle a huge amount trying to say what I want and in the end I get very stressed and give up.
-
Yes, I understand. I felt positive when I came out of my assessment but after I had calmed down and got home I realised there was a few things I didn't mention and kind of thought that hopefully they would be covered in a requested report from one of the professionals they ask you to list on the form. I mean why else would you list them if the ain't going to talk to them! If only this whole Pip programe was developed by or influenced by disabled people. That way all these things would of been taken into account by a person who actually lives a disabled life.

Then following a review for the government it was suggested that the DWP should make more of an effort in getting reports from Social Services, the previous history of DLA/PIP claims as well as to look for evidence that may exist such as from an ESA assessment etc.
Since then the onus of obtaining further evidence even if you have to pay for it has now been pushed totally onto the claimant.

It may well be the case now, but the initial intent when PIP was first 'floated' was that the gathering of evidence would be carried out by the assessor.

Taken from the 2014 report:8. Under Disability Living Allowance (DLA), individual claimants tended to gather and submit further evidence themselves. The Review understands the intention under PIP was to shift the onus of responsibility to the assessment provider. But there seems to be doubt and ambiguity in some quarters about who is responsible for gathering further evidence. The Disability Benefits Consortium reported confusion about where responsibility actually sits between the assessment providers and claimants. Similarly, the BMA suggested that GPs are sometimes approached directly by claimants for further evidence.

The subtle move towards having the claimant supply further evidence is evidenced by the wording that used to appear on the original PIP2 and the wording on the new PIP2. Originally the claimant was asked only to supply what relevant evidence they had to hand. It originally further said that the claimant is not required to ask for further evidence that they don't have and certainly they should not pay for it.
The change has been made by the DWP to help them in their work - the claimant is now responsible for submitting further information.
-
Thank you so much for this, so it seems that there has been some confusion from the start in terms of evidence. I still cant help but feel that pip has been plagued with confusion, even without the DWP gathering further information they are still struggling with huge back logs and wrong decisions.
-
When I first claimed PIP (2013) they wrote to my GP asking for more info, she sent them a brief but decent letter which they took into account.
-
Update:
i have had two phone calls over the past few days with them asking me if I want to continue with my claim and when my disability worsened. Both the same sort of questions has anyone had this? -
They can sometimes ring to ask a question before making a decision, it happened to me.
