Should we all be put down for the good of the country?

exdvrexdvr Member Posts: 313 Pioneering

The work and pensions secretary has come under fire for backing a Tory candidate in a marginal seat who wrote on social media that people on the reality TV programme Benefits Street needed “putting down”.    Certainly one way to solve a pesky problem don't you think?

What say others?

Best wishes.

All of us?  No...  But we should be given the option!  There are loads of us that would take being bumped off over a life on benefits...

As for that certainly doesn't help the stereotypes. :|

Hello @exdvr   Please can I say why listen to any thing like this.

Never watch news just look on the web for catch up, feel good stories.

If I ever thought about my life. Is it not important right now to think positive, be confident and have self esteem.

Find ways to cope and deal with what you are going through.

Benefits yes it is a way of life for those in the system and I know this .

As do many of the community.

Do we want to be like some places in Europe. Who does not have a benefit or welfare system.

The families look after the disabled, elderly pay for every thing through those who can work.

Or the difficult decision to be put in to Authority poorly run homes.

If your like me, talking to those from Ukraine, Poland and other Eastern European Countries.

Since many of them have made a new life for themselves here.

They are tradesman and do the jobs a lot of people do not wish to do.

Met those members of families spending on their children. As they grow into adults.

The children have no say or any money reliant on their parents to work.

I think also if you have problems, issues then you need to address those.

Yes it is difficult, heart breaking the amount of stories on here. I deal with very emotional.

I try to impart a lot of support, guidance and advice to those suffering.

Understanding with compassion and sensitivity .

It is your health conditions and situations that you deal with.  How you deal with them.

I can only advise and listen happy to do so every day.

I know my own issues need to express and explore avenues , paths to help my self.

If on benefits so what if this helps to give me a life, some thing to live on. After all being doing this on and off constantly last thirty plus years ongoing.

If I thought about every time some one hurts and harms me do I want to commit the final act of ending my life.

Do I instead be a proud gent and stand up and fight any thing I need to improve my life.

Do I need to prove myself of course I do not.  Do I care about me and what I am no not really my thoughts are with others who can not adapt. Think clearly.

In fact we have all a beauty make sunshine. It does not have to be complicated.

Have a heart, think of inner soul and think of the good things you can bring to your life.

Do I need to show the qualities, abilities, skills and talents. If they can not or do not see past the disability.?

Then I have to ask myself are they worth bothering with.

Comments, harsh words come in all sorts in my life.  Even from my own family.

Make your life what is it is. I do know this. Yes lots has happened to any of us.

All you need to do is think and be positive. Ignore the drains of life and find radiators .

    Something to think about.

    Please take care.

Let`s face it....some people claiming benefits are scroungers, idle lazy bones who want everything and put in nothing.
I like many here, worked for a lot of years before becoming disabled and unable to perform well in a job.
And yes, we would rather be in work than receiving benefits.
BUT....a big BUT...classing me with the likes of those on Benefit Street is not on. I`m not ready to hand in the towel and climb the steps to the pearly gates.

    Just think how many industries and people would go out of business if disabled people didn't need the likes of;

    specialist beds and mattresses
    adapted cars and buses
    stair lifts
    care homes
    care companies

Oh I bet there are endless more....add to my list if you like

The Tories have wasted our money on deceitful adverts that have breached advertising standards just to stop criticism of their flagship welfare policy. Money which could have been used to assist those whom the policy has left hungry and destitute. They’ve wasted our money on Brexit leave dates, emergency planning and memorial coins, £6 billion at last count. Wasted funds that could have been used to invest in the NHS and public services to avert real rather than self inflicted crises. They continue to hive off any savings they make and more on their flagship Disability Benefits Reform, PIP, to private companies. It actually costs us taxpayers money to cause this humanitarian disaster for disabled people. Cash which any decent minded people would use to help the most vulnerable in society.

Very interesting post. I tended to agree at first that we should be given the option, but on reflection I think the issue with that would be that people who otherwise are happy to be alive would feel pressured into taking the option so as to not feel a burden on society or their family members.

I can only agree with @thespiceman - I rarely watch TV other than gardening & cookery programmes & 'Strictly'....I choose to watch later those programmes that interest or distract me from the issues I face. the spiceman puts it more elequently than I, however I do appreciate, whilst I have little understanding of the multitude of problems people here undoubtedly face, there will be someone here that has a greater understanding, & will go the extra mile to help another in this community.
I am saddened to have read that some people don't feel entitled to even a holiday in this country; that some try to work in considerable pain, as they are not getting the help, & benefits they should receive, & so much more. I can only hope that we can all help, & learn from each other in a positive way too. This is what this community is about IMHO.
As the spiceman says, '..... think and be positive.'
