please can some one help me with somethink can you get ESA and still get your private pension

    HI and welcome,

    It will depend what ESA you're claiming. If it's Income related then your pension will be counted as income £1 for £1.

    If it's Contributions based then anything under £85 per week is disregarded. For anything over this amount then you will lose 50p for every £1 over that amount.

    If it's Contributions based with an income related top up then you will lose all or part of that top up.

    Also if you receive a lump sum this will affect any means tested benefits you claim, if the lump sum is over £6,000 you will lose £ for every £250 over that amount. Anything over £16,000 and you won't be entitled to any means tested benefits.

    Either way, you need to report all changes to DWP and also to your local council if you receive a lump sum that brings your savings over the above amounts.
