Hi Pauline...I`m Pauline too and 67.
You need help ASAP...cant continue as you are. Ask Social Services for a care assessment. Tell them it`s URGENT.
I have carers twice a day, plus have hubby to help me.

    Hope things improve.

Hello @pauline55 - Welcome to the community & thank you for sharing. I'm sorry to read about the situation you're in, but pleased your GP is helping, & I hope is coming to see you.
You have received excellent advice above, from someone who certainly understands. Here's a link explaining about such an assessment, which I hope may also help. See: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/care/arranging-care/care-needs-assessment/

    Hi and welcome,

I'm one of the community champions here on scope. Thank you @thespiceman for the tag.

@pauline55 As your first payment for UC was on 13th December that assessment appoint does seem to have arrived rather quickly. May i just ask you to confirm if the letter is from The Health Assessment Advisory Service? These are the ones that do the work capability assessments. If it is then you will need to ring them first thing tomorrow morning because that appointment is on Tuesday. If you don't ring them and you fail to attend the assessment then you'll most likely be found fit for work for failing to attend.

For the home assessment you will need a letter from your GP stating the reasons why you can't attend the assessment centre but please be aware that if you do attend other appointments then this can go against you when requesting the home assessment.

When you do have the assessment they will ask you questions about how your conditions affect your ability to do any type of work because it's not about the work you can't do, it's about the work you can do. You will also need to verify what you wrote in the form that you returned.

For support with your health conditions then you can self refer yourself for a needs assessment and you can do this by contacting your local council. An Occupational Therapist will them come out and assess your needs. See link.

Hope this helps and if you have any further questions please just ask.

I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Hi @pauline55 and welcome to the community. I'm so sorry to hear how much you're struggling. Having read your post, I think it's really important you try to request a needs assessment. However, I understand that this might seem overwhelming. If you're able to get in touch with us on community@scope.org.uk with some information (full name, date of birth and address) we can, with your consent, try to make a social care referral on your behalf. Please drop us an email and we can take it from there.
