Hi @77cp - Thank you for sharing about yourself. When I qualified as a physio, I worked with children who had cerebral palsy. I'm retired now, but have also dealt in antiques, eventually having a secondhand & antiquarian bookshop for many years.
I've got a genetic disorder (the hypermobile type of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) which has affected my joints, so I now do the exercises I used to teach as a student!
Are you still doing voluntary work?

No. I gave up a  couple of years ago. It was a disability charity dealing with all aspects of disability. As well as cp I was dropped at 5 months resulting in paralys of my left side and Epilepsy . Fortunatly I do not have fits now and I am able to walk though I have a hemi gait.. As well as all that I have a diagnosis of Bipolar. Good mixture.

Thanks for the info but I have been a sufferer so long that I have experienced the charities you mrntioned. That seems to be where the problem lies. It is left to charities to cater for those of us who are not fortunate enough to help themselves instead of the government doing thier bit.

Hello @77cp   Sorry to hear that, I had mine issues for thirty plus years.

Do know any part of healing recovery is helping yourself.

I have and found the charities very responsive if you do say no.

To any thing they may offer or suggest.

You have to understand all these charities are cash strapped under funded, over burden subscribed.

    Staff working all hours.

I do think and did suggest that those who are having problems adjusting helping themselves in any mentla health problems or diffciulties.

Have a befriender in the charity, unfortunately that never emerged..

Please can I ask what would make you consider helping yourself or adapting to circumstances.

All of us expect the Government to consider looking after us old from cradle to grave not so.

We know this being on this community discuss, debate this every day, more or less.

    Meet people like you.

I do wish I can help more , used to assist and help those like yourself in my community.

Abused, mistreated and used as part of mate crime or hate crime.

Become a friend taught many with learning disabilities to do lifestyle tasks, duties and anything else.

Cooking, cleaning how to set up bank accounts and apply for benefits and much more.

Distressing to see and hear and deal with.

All elderly gents missed by Councils care systems.

Have you ever looked at alternative support.

    These offer a lot.

    https://www.salvationarmy.org.uk.

    https://www.redcross.org.uk.

Have own support welfare and can help in a crisis.

Please I am always here if I can help.

    Pleasure to meet you.

    Please take care.
