So I have mental health issues and I am on pip and esa. I studied previously years ago and I would like to go back to college and study something different more suitable as back then I just chose anything what I thought was relevant at the time. Anyway, I wouldn't mind paying partially for the course but would it affect my benefits??

    Hi There I am one of the Community Champions, I believe if the course is over 16hrs per week then it may have an affect on your benefits but your best bet would be to speak to the PIP team they should have the right information on this - thansk Tom

    Hi,

    Your PIP won't be affected unless going to college contradicts the reasons why you're claiming PIP and it could go against you when you're next reviewed.

    Your ESA, i remember from previous threads from you that you're claiming Income Related ESA. This means that any student maintenance loan you receive will count as income for your ESA and this will include whether you take the loan or not.

    Students and benefits are extremely complicated and i wouldn't advise ringing DP for advice. You should speak to the disabled students helpline for expert advice. https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/how-we-can-help/helplines/disabled-students-helpline

    I wouldn't get any student finance as i had the maximum years ago at uni but adult learning grants!!???
