Hi, can someone advise me if I'm at serious risk or not of the coronavirus. I'm currently off work, due to cerebral palsy being listed on the vulnerable list. I am semi hemiplegic down my right hand side. It doesn't stop me doing much really, just weaker and have sniffness on that side and I don't tend to suffer with chest infections. I don't even see a consultant or anybody regarding my condition, that all stopped at the age of 16 and I'm now 42! Do I really need to stay of work for 12 week to avoid social contact?? Thanks

    Hi @emag - Welcome to the community, & thank you for joining. Unfortunately none of us are medically qualified, so are unable to help with this, sorry. As you no longer see any specialists, your GP would be the best person to discuss this with. See if you can get a telephone consultation if you're unable to book an appointment.

    Thanks, I've contacted GP and he wouldn't commit to saying if I'm at serious risk or not. If I'm honest my GP is the best, last time I went l was asked why I was walking with a limb!!

    I think only you can make that decision as to whether you should or shouldn't self isolate. As no one on an internet forum knows how your CP affects exactly then it will be impossible for anyone to advise you with this.
    I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
    If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

    HI @emag, as you know Cerebral Palsy affects people in many different ways. As a result, it's difficult to give guidance that accurately reflects everybody's experience with the impairment. Our CP information officer @Richard_Scope has said the following elsewhere:
    Some are affected very mildly and others with have more serious problems related to the impairment. It is those people that have issues with their breathing, reoccurring chest infections or swallowing issues.
    If you're wanting to stay at work, it might be worth speaking to your GP and then perhaps getting in touch with ACAS about how you might return.

    [Edit: Sorry, merged these threads and noticed you've said about your GP isn't particularly helpful!]

    Very, very broadly, a person with CP will be at high risk if they have had:
    • Frequent chest infections
    • Pneumonia at anytime
    • Is invited to have the yearly flu jab

    Hi there,

    it really depends on the severity and the kind of cp you have. I only had minor low-grade fevers but my seizures were well-controlled. Definitely talk to your GP/neurologist if you have one and they can probably provide better answers.
