Hi I get lower personal care and higher rate mobility. I do not have a car on the mobility scheme, I have my own. My car tax is due soon and somebody told me I'm entitled to free car tax. Can anybody tell me how I go about organising this please, I cant seem to find any relevant information on the government website. Thanks in advance.

Hi @MummyBtothree It looks as though you can get an exemption, just read down a little on this link

‘
Vehicle tax exemption
Eligibility
You can apply for exemption from paying vehicle tax if you get the:
- higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment ’

Thank you but I cant seem to make head nor tail of it, it sounds so complicated and I dont cope easily with things like this. I was going to ring the pip helpline but I dont think they will be much help it looks like it's all done through the post office. Just wish somebody could simplify it for me lol.

Thank you for your reply but with all due respect I suffer with complex mental health problems and what may seem simple to one person may be very confusing for me.

You take all your documents, including your award letter to your local post office. Please read the link above and it tells you what you need to take with you.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help. -
