Coming to terms with CP diagnosis of my gorgeous ex prem 26 weeker who is now 18 months. The ‘wait and watch’ period seems to be over but there is still so much uncertainty. Anyone else been through/going through anything similar?

Hi @MumtoHewie and welcome to the community.

It must be difficult to come to terms with, but having the diagnosis is always an important step towards getting any help your child needs.. Is your GP or health consultant assisting you with this?

Many of our users have CP, or have family members who do, so I'm sure they will offer their insight. Scope also offers free Parents Connect sessions, which will give you the chance to interact with people in similar situations and receive support.

    Hi @MumtoHewie
How are you doing? Just after diagnosis is a tough time. You have gone through the sometimes difficult task of getting people and medical professionals to hear your concerns about your child and then with the diagnosis, it all seems to stop, It is completely normal for you to enter into a sort of grieving process, acknowledge those feelings if you feel them. It does not mean that you love your boy any less.
We have some information about Before and after diagnosis that I think will help. There are also many parents on the community that I'm sure will give you the benefit of their experiences.
I have quadriplegic CP and I'm more than happy to answer any of your questions or just listen (read) what you want to say.

Hi @MumtoHewie - & welcome to this friendly & supportive community. I hope you & your little boy are doing well. I'm sure you'll find the info Richard sent helpful. I'd just like to mention a programme within that link called 'Navigate' in case you miss it. Many parents have found this useful, & it might be something you'd be interested in. Here's a direct link: https://www.scope.org.uk/family-services/navigate/   which explains it.
Please use this forum at any time as there's usually someone here to chat with. You might also like to try our virtual 'Coffee lounge.' :)

    Hi @MumtoHewie
How are you? How is your little boy? Welcome to the community and thank you for joining us. Coming to terms with a diagnosis is difficult and as @Richard_Scope has said it is important to acknowledge those feelings if you feel them. I hope you find the resources useful and please do let us know how you find these. I have Cerebral Palsy and would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have if I am able too. This is a warm and supportive community, we are here to support one another. Best wishes. Thank you.
