Hi every one I used to be a size 12/14 and weighed 12 stone now I weigh just over 16 stone and I’m like a size 18/20 . My medication is a huge reason to my massive weight gain . I have such a hunger I never had before plus I don’t get any exercise because of my illness . I know there must be other people like my self who have had a weight gain due to disability I put all this weight on since being on quatiapine so since feb this year .

I recently down loaded a app called nutra check where I can monitor how many Calories are in what I’m eating so has my partner so he can help me monitor what I eat as I mainly eat snacks he prepares my main meals as I can’t prepare meals I snack so I will put snacks into Daily calorie Snack boxes to monitor what I’m eating . My memory isn’t so good so I will need help so my partner will help me with it . I’m determined to loose some weight and manage my weight. I was wondering if any one else has any weight loss ideas  . As going to a gym is not some thing I can do And I have this massive hunger for snacks .

Who else has found a increase in weight since having a disability ?

Hi cupcake88, I know exactly how you feel!
I've been on steroids for 16 years and in that time I have put on 8st... I'm barely mobile and in a lot of pain so I can't exercise. I don't overeat as I can't prepare any meals myself.
I'm thinking of trying meal replacement drinks for a while.

Also, my son lost three st with Slimming World and highly recommends it. Though he is able to exercise as well...
    Good luck with your plans.

Due to my physical problems I can't do much in the way of exercise, although I do train twice a week in Taekwondo, and 30 years ago I started Karate and trained up to around 2011 at various local Clubs, until I had to stop because one night I did my back in training.

Excercise won't help with weight loss, it will only keep a body trim. Healthy eating helps with weight loss. I can't exercise either because of my health condition, infact most days i can hardly walk.
I've followed slimming world healthy eating plan since 2016 and my first year i lost 6.5 stone and went from more than 17st to 11 stone. Now i weigh 12 stone so have gain a little in a period of 3.5 years but i'm still able to manage to keep the majority of my weight off. I also lost all that weight with zero exercise.
Slimming world is a fat free healthy eating plan, so i can still eat a lot of things and can still have a few treats in the evening when i'm watching TV.

Thanks for sharing with me I didn’t think I was alone in this . Yes I have earn of slimming world but I think I would find it hard to follow a plan .
I think calorie counting would suit me better . But just knowing how much calories are in things is helpful I was shocked to how much is in certain things .

Most people on Anti pychotic medication Complain bout weight gain I never thought I would Ever put on so much but  My increase in hunger is huge . Yes I have heard steroids can do the same .

Oh that’s good that you can do martial arts that would be good for exercise .

I have heard there are some good chairs exercises people can do . I canT go to a gym I barely go outside so I don’t go on walks .

Thanks. Slimming world is actually calorie counting but they do that for you in a certain sort of way because the plan is fat free. They advise you on the things you should eat that boost weight loss.

I take what my GP described as "industrial amounts" of "industrial strength" medication and my weight over the last 20 years or so has bounced from 13stone to 18 stone atm its 15.5 stone and I'm happy with that, if I think i'm getting a little over weight I cut down on cakes/puddings and chocolate.
The only time I get weighed is at the hospital or doctors as we haven't had scales in the house since or daughter became so anorexic at the age of 17 that we almost lost her, her weight went down to 5 stone and her organs were starting to fail, luckily the NHS agreed to pay £30,000 for a 10 week stay in a specialist private hospital which saved her life. She is now a happy healthy and successful 32 year old.
2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

My weight has gone up and down over the years - between about 12 stone (a little bit underweight) and 21 stone (very overweight). Currently I am overweight.

I did go through a phase where I couldn’t eat due to my issues and lost over 25% of my body weight in a few months. I still have trouble preparing and eating proper meals and like you I now eat a lot of snacks.

I am overweight at the moment. I don’t know whether any of the medication I am on is making me more hungry but I often eat snacks in the evening as I feel that I need a reward for getting through the day. I don’t get much enjoyment out of the days themselves and feel like I need a little bit of pleasure at the end of the day if that makes sense.

It’s don’t think it is entirely true that exercise doesn’t help but it is correct that eating less calories is the more important part of weight loss and you can lose weight without doing any exercise. A doctor told me that weight loss comes from about 80% eating less and 20% exercise.

Last time I got weighed, which was about a month ago, my weight as I recall was 13 stone 8, quite a bit down from 15 stone 11 the time before when I had a medical up at the Doctor's with the Nurse.
