I was wondering if any of you had used a tens machine and if you found it helped. I am in absolute agony with my arthritis and was thinking about getting one rather than taking pills to help with the pain.

My better half tried one a few years ago, I think it's one of those things that works for some people.2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡

Thanks @woodbine.

Yes, I've also heard they work really well for some people, but not others @deb74. It could be worth a go. Have you spoken to your doctor about it?
-
Hi @Tori_Scope. I have really painful joints because of my arthritis. I haven't spoken to my doctor yet but I know he isn't very keen on the idea of giving me loads of pills to take. I will talk to him and see what he thinks. Thanks

@deb74 do you have a rheumatology nurse you can speak to? The literature is a bit mixed with some studies showing TENS can help.
-
Hi @Cressida. No I haven't got a nurse that I can talk to but have read a few reviews on the Arthritis UK website and people seem to be singing the praises of the machines.
-
@debs74 you have nothing to lose by giving it a try. You have my sympathy as I have RA and struggle with flares. I would happily chop off my hands sometimes if I were given an axe.
-
Hi @Cressida. I have just ordered a TENS machine! The pain in my right hip is getting unbearable. Like you said I have nothing to lose (except the pain) hopefully!

Hi @Cressida. I Will let you you know how I get on with it. Like you said it is better than taking loads of pills.

Hi @Cressida. I have just started using the tens machine. I am using it as I am typing this. This is the first time I have used it and it feels a bit weird but I am sure I will get used to it!
-
@deb74 I was wondering if it had arrived. Thanks for the feedback, it will be really interesting to see if it helps with the pain. Good luck.
-
Hi @Cressida. It arrived on Friday but I didn't start using until yesterday. I had to get me head around the instructions first. It has got loads of programs and different speeds. I will keep you undated on how well it works on the pain.

Hi @Cressida, I have used the tens machine a couple of times now and it is brilliant! I was I had bought one ages ago
-
@deb74 I am really pleased to hear that! You never know until you try things do you. I hope the pain settles down soon.
-
Hi @Cressida. You are right about not knowing until you try. The pain is still there especially when I go for a walk but after I have uses the machine for a bit the pain calms down.
