Hi everyone, I have a couple of disabled friends dating back to schooldays but in more recent times the mojority of connections I have made have been able bodied people this has led to me struggling with loneliness and isolation I would like to get to know likeminded people with cerebral palsy that have a greater understanding of the situation I am faced with. I live on the Surrey Sussex boarder does anybody know of any social group that meets on a regular basis? Thank you for your help.

Hi, can I ask why you need to only make friends with other disabled people, why not make friends with non-diasabled?  Forgive me if you think I am being rude.  I went to a special school, but I have only kept in contact with one friend and even then we are not close. And I find this a lot in society.  I am constantly asked which disabled clubs do I belong to, i used for a while when I first left school.  But quite honestly I grew out of them.  Not to sound unkind, I needed more intellectual stimulation.  Is this just me, or does anyone else feel the same?  Most of my friends are non-disabled and they just except me as I am.  Interested to hear other views on this matter.

I'm not sure @JBro is saying they only want to be friends with disabled people, more that they just want to meet more disabled people and have more as part of their network. It can be very beneficial to know others who share your experiences, in particular when it comes to disability which can be a huge part of a person's life.

Sorry I hope I haven’t caused offence.  I have just come across this issue before.  I accept its good to compare notes and everyone should do what they feel comfortable with.  Hope @JBro find the friends they are looking for.

Hi @JBro sorry  to read your feeling lonely and isolated. I've googled your area and come up with something that might be of interest link below.

Yes this is exactly what I am saying is I would like more people with disability as part of my network, not that I just want to make friends with disabled people I do apologise for those of you who misunderstood. Thank you leeCal and Sandy_123 I will look into these further.

    Hi @JBro
Hope you are well. Welcome to the community and thank you for joining us. I understand completely where you are coming from, I was in a similar position of having able-bodied friends but wanting to grow my network in terms of sharing experiences with others who could relate. I joined a wheelchair basketball group and then the online community here on Scope. Both have been brilliant experiences and have opened up my network massively. I hope you are able to find a group close to where you live which enables you to develop your network, interests and experiences. I have CP as well, happy to chat here on the community. Thank you.
