Hi everyone I am new here and looking for some advise on going back to work, but I'm so unsure as to what I need to do.
I would like to set up my own business, as I am not good socially around people or in a workplace, because of my special needs disability.
I have receive high disability and PIP for my learning difficulty, I feel I need to try and live a more structured life, I feel very trapped at the moment.
Would it affect my PIP and ESA if I became self employed and registered the business with HMRC, even if it doesn't make any money straight away?
I feel I need to try to build up and do something with my life, so I thought build a business from home, as I never seem to last long in a job ?
Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi @emmy21 - & welcome to the online community. If you worked, it wouldn't affect your PIP, however with ESA you can work so long as it's no more than 16 hours a week, & you don't earn more than £143 a week. See: https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/working-while-you-claimWith self employment, you don't have to register with the HMRC unless you earned £1000 from self employment between 6 April 2020 & 5 April 2021, which won't apply. Some info here: https://www.gov.uk/set-up-sole-traderI hope some of this helps.

Hi everyone wow thanks for this amazing advise, @Ross_Scope @janer1967 @chiarieds so my thoughts are an anxiety coach working with people who relate to me, that I can help and support women mainly as I work better with women. I just feel I have a lot of life traumas and had to deal with my own disability I want to try to help others

The job centre and the tax man is based inside the same building. If you need help on how to fill out a Self Assessment as a self employed person, the staff in the job centre can teach you how to do it. They can give you a Government Gateway account which is used to login to the HMRC dashboard.

I don't think so @innocent21 - The Job centre is administered by the DWP, which is totally separate from HMRC.
@emmy21 - that's a great ambition, & I wish you every success in helping others.
