Just wanted to say hi to you all.i was diagnosed with musculoskeletal in December 2020.So far no pain relief has worked which has been prescribed to me.it as been very hard though to get appointments with the covid..just on waiting lists which is really annoying as I have not seen anybody as to yet via the hospital since being diagnosed. My appointments with my gp as been over the telephone and not seen him since my lower back pain started in October 2020.i get very upset and angrier over this.since I have taken different medication since last October I have anxiety..forgetfulness..say the wrong words ECT.. I now use crutches and a wheelchair for when I go out..every step or movement is very painful.
My whole life feels as it as been turned upside down..i was always very active and worked to care for others for the past 30 years and now I have had to give my job up which I loved..

Hi and welcome to the community

Sorry you are in pain and nothing is easing it

Have you thought about consulting with a chiropractor they specialise in this area

From experience it was the best thing I ever did when I had issues

    Hi again

It does take time for treatment to work,  have they recommended any other medication or suggested how long treatment will take

I had a different condition but I thought it was torture at first but eventually it started to get better

I had 3 months of intensive treatment 3 times a week before it was cut down to weekly

I do understand the expense involved may not be affordable to people

That is often the case these ailments develop very quickly but take a lot longer to get better

I had 2 years of treatment it was reduced to 3 monthly for the final year

Hi @shazzawood - I'm sorry to read you have musculoskeletal problems, as I also have low back pain. I understand it's difficult to get appointments at the moment, but just to let you know that some physios go on to train in acupuncture. I had acupuncture on the NHS (as well as privately), tho sadly it didn't work for me. Who are you hoping to see.....a musculoskeletal team, which may include a rheumatologist or other specialist, & often a physio?

Hello @shazzawood and a warm welcome from me.  It's lovely to meet you.

I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing musculoskeletal issues.  Has your GP exhausted the different painkillers you could try whilst awaiting your hospital appointments?  Would a review of the side-effects you describe (anxiety and forgetfulness) be helpful?

It's hard dealing with chronic pain; even more-so at the moment as the impact of the pandemic and increased waiting times continues :(  How are you doing emotionally?  I think many of our members can relate to the process of adjustment you describe, from being active to using aids and equipment like a wheelchair so if you ever want to chat, vent or rant about anything, know we understand and you're in a safe space to do so  <3

If you ever need any help on the community just give us a shout, and feel free to make yourself at home in any of our categories.  Be that our virtual coffee lounge, where our members chew the fat about anything and everything, to the recent discussions going on.

Take care and I hope to speak again soon.

Hi again @shazzawood - I hope you may find the following link helpful: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/ways-to-manage-chronic-pain/    & this specifically about back pain; please also see the video on some simple physio exercises: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/back-pain/treatment/
You unfortunately have a lot going on.....I can identify a little, as I have tried all sorts of tablets in the past, only to find that in those with my genetic disorder pain medication is largely ineffective. One thing, which almost to my surprise helped, was CBD, & I've had lower back pain since being a teenager. There's no guarantee it would work for you, but, it can reduce pain if taken properly for some. I've been taking it for some time, &, if you're at all interested, let me know. I find, as others have experienced, that it's often a combination of things that work with pain.....it's just finding what will work for you. Hopefully pain management will help with this too.

Thank you Cher I will join you in the coffee room .at the moment I am reading all the different topics.i have tried differant pain killers..i have  just had to reduce gabapentin as it did not eork for me to start a new medication called pregabalin so it's back to start on low dose and work my way up agen.i also recently having morphine patches as I tried morphine solution but did nothing. I do take others besides..its all the side effects that worry me to.

Just to jump in again, I tried Gabapentin &, at a dose that was effective, I just wanted to sleep half the day. I now take Pregabalin (which is in the same family of 'Gaba' meds). The good thing about Pregabalin is that you get the same effect, but at a much lower dose, with consequent fewer side effects. It doesn't relieve my pain, but it dampens it down a bit so the pain is tolerable. I hope it helps you too. :)

Thankyou Claire.. it's good to hear that there's no me by side effects..fingers crossed they will work even if it is only enough to take the edge off.
