Very best of luck for Monday @Mary1972 :) Don't worry too much if you end up getting upset, or need some time to process what they've said. Are you feeling prepared (or as prepared as you can ever feel!)?

And @Mary1972, May GOD be on your side, I went through one nightmare after another because of P.I.P as I have already told the welcome team, it was only because of 2 Friends, 1 Brother and my Parents that I never went into unsustainable debt and to my eventual death like some disabled people have, this is why they say, always have people with you, otherwise, there is a possibility of losing the claim (I had to suffer for over 6 years before I was finally able to successfully get P.I.P). Should you fail, get people who know you well, and ask for an extension to the appeal, and get friend's and family who know the conditions you suffer with, and focus on the part's where you fail badly, as well as injury's that do affect your ability to work. And if possible ask for a summary of your medical conditions from your GP or Local Hospital where your conditions were diagnosed.

Thanks for the advice, I have a note pad and over the last week or so I've been making notes for myself. Things I'm likely to forget...things which feel normal actions to me but in reality to others aren't but I've learnt to live with certain behaviours and patterns. Things like no day is the same for me, I can wake from my sleep crying and then sit in one place for hours at a time just re thinking situation that have happened in my life, questioning why it happened,  could I have changed it, was it my fault....and not worry about anything else other than my thoughts.
The next day my anxiety could be bad where I'm pulling every cupboard out in the house to try and organise myself but end up with all the cupboards pulled out because I cant work out what needs to be in what cupboard and then leave it all because I forgot why I was doing it in the first place!
To others it probably  sound not too bad but when your frantically wracking your brain to try and organise a cupboard and cant complete a simple task as I'm in fear I get it wrong, its exhausting.

Making notes is a good idea @mary1972 :)

The challenges you face are absolutely valid, and I can imagine that would be really exhausting. Are you accessing any support for your anxiety at the moment?

And @Mary1972, in these circumstances either get a Third Party Agreement or Power of Attorney (from friends or family) To be with you at the appeal (whether in the courts or Telephone Call) who can help you silently in the background giving you pointers on what you should be saying, instead of relying on your own words which could cause you to fail. I wrote down everything I wanted to say about the issues I had, with my third party authority (as my legal representative) who told them of other issues which I had not mentioned, this is what helped me win my P.I.P appeal. Just remember, do not use words that give them a reason to fail you.

@Freespirit47 - @Mary1972 is just at the stage of having a telephone assessment tomorrow, not a tribunal.
Mary, my best wishes for tomorrow, as Tori says, making notes is a good idea.....we become so used to what we do, or how we cope, that writing it all down is so very helpful. Take your time in answering, & ask the assessor to repeat anything you're unsure about. Try & give a couple of examples of the difficulty you face for each applicable question. You can do this. :) Kindly let us know how you get on, thank you.

Please forgive me, I was just trying to be helpful, being I have already gone through this and thought that the experience and knowledge I gained through my legal representative would help (due to having learning disabilities myself).

I waited for over  8 months to have a phone assessment from pip, and was told by the assessor that I would hear from DWP in about 3/4 weeks,. Actually it was only m1 week I had to wait to be told that I have  been awarded it  for 3 years, so does that mean after the 3 years are up  will I have to reply again or is it automatically ren.

You will be sent a renewal letter/form about six months before the end of the award.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Rules may be different in other parts of UK.

That means if you would like a copy of the assessment report you can give them a call and request this. Usually arrives between 7 and 10 working days.

This will give an indication of what the HCP is recommending and usually the DWP decision maker goes with this, however sometimes  this isn’t always the case.

If you think this might make things worse or make you anxious etc, then I’d recommend not requesting the report and just waiting for the decision letter.

They tend to say 6 to 8 weeks for the decision but at the moment this is different area to area and you may find it quicker or even longer than this.

Thank you for the information, I think I'll give them a call this morning and ask for a copy. After such a long wait I feel I've done my best to explain my struggles and don't feel as anxious as the months leading up to the assessment. I'll shall keep you updated to see where we go from here.  Thank you for all the support and help x

Hello everyone,  so have my report, it includes everything I said regarding my daily living and activities and struggles. I only wish I had spoken more honestly about how my mental health does effect everything I do, however its taken me 18 months of councilors to be able to get to this point so if the assessor has down played things that my doing for not wanting to completely be open due to the shame of my self. I think she was very to the point and fair. However regarding the mobility element,  I feel that non of that at all has been taken into account, I will not go out on my own and yes I could plan a route because I would for days use Google and bus time tables and research and research and go back and forth for hours making list because that is what I do , I cant trust anyone or anything. But I couldn't do the journey on my own as if anything changed I'd have a panic attack, I cant approach people for help....well it won't happen.  I don't go shopping, I don't socialise. Anyway,I feel like I let myself down
But I think I've got 13 points for daily activities and 0 for the mobility section.
This was my first claim for PIP - 28th Jan 21
    Assessment- 19th July 21
    Report recieved 23rd July 21
    Still awaiting an award

Thought this may help people with a time scale , thank you for all the advice and support

Hi @Mary1972 - I'm pleased your assessment report was good in parts, but sorry you didn't get recommended the mobility component. Still you will have to wait for your decision letter. Please don't feel ashamed about having mental health problems; there is absolutely no shame in that at all. :)
