Backpayment has taken me slightly over savings limit - advice?

I'm on ESA and PIP. I posted a while ago about how my PIP was stopped after a reassessment. After a fight, it has been reinstated at a higher level and today I got a backpayment which has taken my total amount of money (savings account and current account together) to a total of £6300.
According to the internet, an overpayment taking you above the savings limit is disregarded "in some cases" but it doesn't say what cases. Is this one of the cases? Do I need to inform ESA I have over £6K?
Also if you have over £5500 in savings ESA apparently check your bank account to make sure you don't go over £6K, does anyone have experience with this? How does it work? If it's a hassle should I just spend some to get me down below £5500?
When I get my ESA and PIP payments, they don't count as savings for the period they're meant to cover do they?

Backdated money is disregarded for 1 year, therefore it makes no difference.
