Hi @ashleym1976 - & welcome to the community. I'm wondering why you're asking how you class yourself? Was there a certain reason for asking? Is your GP helping you with your anxiety & depression?

    Hello @ashleym1976

Welcome to the community, I'm glad to see you join us and thank you for telling us a bit about your conditions. You mentioned that they've been impacting you since 2002, which is a very long time, have you ever had any support to manage them? It might be worth getting in contact with your GP if it is a concern for you, they would be able to help you  and provide support to help you cope.

Additionally, do you have any friends or family who are there for you if you need them?

You can access support through the Mind website, they have plenty of useful information pages such as this one for managing with anxiety and this other one about managing with depression. I'm sorry to hear about the damage you caused to your hand, did you seek help when you had that injury? How long ago was this?

You'll always be welcome on this community and I hope you enjoy taking part, please feel free to have a browse and get involved with any discussions that take your fancy.

Hi @ashleym1976 I'm very sorry to hear about what you've gone through. Thank you for reaching out here. It's concerning to hear about your experience with your girlfriend and step father, could I ask if the abuse was ever reported?

You mention you've been trying to cope by yourself, perhaps now is a good time to speak with your GP about how you're finding it hard to cope right now, and your chronic pain. They might be able to help with managing that pain. The NHS has some useful information on getting help as well.

Remember, if you need it Mind has some useful advice on managing your mental health, including depression and anxiety.

If you'd like us to offer you any additional support then please do let us know, we're here to support you. Keep us updated with your PIP claim, and if you're unsure of anything don't hesitate to ask a question.

Unfortunately it wasn't reported when I was a child if I did it would cause bigger atmosphere where the x wasn't reported dident Know where to turn I went in on myself when I found my new partner I seen a bit of light but the nightmare like flashbacks of what has happened in the past comes back I know its not her fault but it sends my self steam on hold and it difficult to change finding it hard and working which I got issues with it makes sense as I had to cope mentally with pain iam taking zapain from the doctors as well as gapapentain 300g I take day by day as it comes

Hi @ashleym1976 thanks for letting us know what happened that's very helpful.

Have you spoken to anyone about the flashbacks you've been having before today? If you're finding it all a bit difficult, you can always self refer for help if you'd prefer.

When you say 'class yourself under mental health issues', can you tell me what you mean by that?

You can be diagnosed with physical health or mental health conditions by a doctor or a specialist, which might help you with access to extra support, so I would encourage getting in touch with them if you are able to.

People can choose to identify as disabled, and others might not like to, even if they have conditions which effect their health for more than a year. It's down to each person which they prefer, and there's no right or wrong way to be.
