If there were a change in an award then there would be no backdating if the change is part of a normal review. If a reassessment was initiated because you chose to a report of a change in your circumstances then any change would be applied from the date you report the change.

    You`ve answered your own question.

No one is entitled to a mobility car as such. You exchange your Enhanced mobility payments for a mobility car, which you need to order from a dealer of your choice.
New claims are taking priority over reviews, which is why the backlogs are so long.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware of this myself either.

Had been under the assumption that I'd get another ~12 months worth of backpay if I get awarded some Mobility this time.

Welcome to the community @darshamboy :) Thank you for joining. How are you doing today?

I hope that the above comments have helped to clear that up for you. Please do let us know whether there's anything else you're unsure about.

You're certainly not the only one to feel stressed about long waiting times!

rang  pip  waited 45 mins to get thro  ( which set me wondering how much ££ dwp pay  bt for ppl  hanging on it must be huge ? )  anyway  eventually  got thro   now they ask me if i want to speak english ? wow whats going on ?  then got very nice lady i could barely  understand her  grrrrrr   but she put me thro to another nice  lady who was very helpful  and raised my hopes  that  after 10 months  they would soon  make a decision if i need  a interview or not  and if yes  then they will then decide  if its  f2f  or telephone   she said she had issued  a task to herself to get this done  by  16th aug.  interesting how they work  omg

Calcotti I am a bit shocked by your reply about there not being any back dated payment if it is for a review as I sent my review form back to them and it was received on 21st October 2021 I was only receiving the low rate of the care component but I had a very bad accident in June and broke my tibia and fibula and had to have it operated on but the surgery was unsuccessful and it was operated on again in July since this accident my mobility has been badly affected and I am unable to walk any distance and am practically housebound now, so will I be in the same position and not receive a back payment if they decide that I am now entitled to the mobility component as well, all I have been told when I called is that they’ve got a huge backlog and my claim is waiting for an assessor to look at my claim but they are short of people to do assessments.

It sounds like you had a reasonably positive experience once you managed to get through @darshamboy, which is good :) How are you feeling about it now?

To be clear - it depends on whether the review assessment was initiated by DWP as a regular review or whether the review was triggered by you reporting a change in your health condition. If the latter there will not be any backdating whereas if you reported a change then there will be backdating.

DWP sent me a review form as my award was going to end in July 2022 but also the review form being sent out  coincided with me having had an accident and the form was at my home address when I was discharged from hospital and it had to be sent back by the deadline and it seems that I will now be penalised due to DWP taking so long to look at my review if I had known that I would be waiting nearly a year for them to look at it I would have been better off putting in a complete new claim as it appears that new claims are locked at far quicker.

You would not have been able to make a new claim while there was an existing award in place.
I do agree it seems unfair that you will potentially lose out because of the assessment delays.

It does seem very unfair in a lot ways😡but also DWP are making a lot of extra money due to their incompetence and making us disabled people once again miss out on possible extra money to help with our day to day needs.

Any help would be appreciated with what I have experienced today after eventually getting through to someone about my PIP REVIEW that was sent back and received in 21st October 2021

So I am speaking to an adviser and asking about my review and the fact that due to it taking so long I could now be losing out on any extra money that would possibly be due to me for the mobility element as I currently only receive low daily care and he informs me that it would be backdated if that is the case so then I have to tell him that is only applies to new claims but he is still adamant that it would apply to my review.

Next I tell him about the Scope forum and that the people that run it are telling us that is not the case!!!!

I am then horrified by his response when he says oh maybe I’ve got it wrong and he says that I will need to put in a change of circumstances I ask how do I do that he says he can do that now. Doesn’t get any better when he then says I can’t do that as there’s a government intervention on your case dated 23rd August but he doesn’t know why that is on there as we havnt got to the 23rd yet😭😢🥲 I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry at this point.
I have since spoken to citizens advice and she is shocked and disgusted and has advised me to call back and ask to speak to a manager. She couldn’t help with the government intervention thing as she didn’t know what it was or meant either.
Has anyone else had this or know what it means. TIA

When you ring PIP you are speaking to someone from a call centre who will very often not have any knowledge on the benefit system. They read from a screen in front of them.
Even his advice about putting in a change of circumstances was shocking because no all changes need to be reported. A worsening of condition doesn't mean you automatically score more points for a higher award or score points for a mobility award.

Can't help with that one because i've never heard of that before.
Edit to add, olut of curiosity when does your current PIP award end?

My current award has been extended for 3 months until 23rd of October and when I contacted them last week they said it will probably be extended after that for another 3 months.
