Hello,

I had my assessment last Thursday and while I know its a waiting game, do you think PIP may be awarded based on the following: I'm just concerned that I may be disfavoured as I don't use appliances to help me but I still struggle as I have depression, dyspraxia, autism and diabetes.  Wondering if people with similar struggles have gotten it

Preparing food :
Cam only put simple meals into oven, don't have motor control for chopping/slicing and my diet is just processed food due to sensitivity with taste/texture due to Dyspraxia, ie no sauces

Managing treatments :
I easily forget to take

Washing and Bathing
Poor balance due to Dyspraxia means easy for me to slip out of shower, also as dyspraxia is a developmental condition I only got into good hygience habits in my 30's and not always aware of how I smell.

Using the toilet
Can get Diarrhoea a lot due to Diabetes medication

Dressing undressing
I stumble a lot while getting dressed, poor balance and still can only tie shoelaces in most basic way

Talking, listening and understanding
I struggle to make out nearby conversation in loud environments, and can lead to frustration

Mixing with other people

Due to dyspraxia and autism, I really struggle with this.  can only have a basic social life. never dated

Managing money
Debt issues in the past

Planning a journey
Need to plan route out before hand

Many thanks,

Ben.

Preparing food. Using the oven is not considered for the activity. Preparing fresh ingrediants, chopping etc is what is considered here.
Taking medication.. depends why you forget and if you need prompting.
Managing toilet needs... getting on and off the toilet and cleaning yourself afterward is what's considered here. Not enough of information to give any further advice.
Washing and bathing.. prompting, assistance, aids is considered here.
Dressing and undresssing.. tying your shoe laces the most basic way isn't relevant.
communicating verbally, not enough of information to give any advice.
Engaging with others, not enough of information to advise.
Making budgeting decision, depends how you manage this now.
planning a journey, not enough of information to advise.
Lots of people successfully claim PIP because of the way their ASD affects them but it's not awarded based on any diagnosis.
To be honest, you haven't given no where near enough of information for anyone to give any advice whether you would be entitled. For this reason you'll need to wait for the decision and this can take up to 12 weeks from when the assessment report was returned to DWP.

Hello there @BenBroad and welcome to the community :) Thanks for reaching out, and well done for getting through the assessment. How did you find it?

As Poppy has mentioned it can take up to 12 weeks to hear more about a decision, so potentially quite a wait.

It's difficult for us to advise on the outcome either way, but it will be based on your assessment, as well as your PIP claim form, and any other evidence you sent it.

Sometimes it helps to focus on other things, like hobbies you enjoy, or spending time with friends and family. You're also welcome to spend time here on the forum if you find it helps take your mind off the wait.

If there's anything you're feeling unsure about, just let us know, and we'll do what we can to help :)

I would add if you filled in your form, get some help, there are plenty of wise people on here to help steer you in the right direction, someone who can step back and take a broader look at how you can word an appeal or new claim depending on the outcome, study the help notes for filling in, in many cases I think everyone words the problems wrong, and your answer is what they use against you when deciding, in many cases its not saying whats wrong, its saying how it affects you when trying to complete the task.

I stumble a lot while getting dressed, will be seen as you should sit down while dressing,

I JUST had my telephone assesment and Im very similar to you... Applying due to Dyspraxia but also have ADHD, hypermobility, mild Dyslexia and childhood PTSD.

I also can't chop stuff or use a knife and fork, I eat pretty much only food that can be eaten by hand (pizza, chips, burrito, sandwhich etc...) and use microwave to cook ready made meals or get take away.

I can't remember to take medication, I stopped Mathylphendate (ADHD meds) in 2005 and have antibiotic resistance but don't take any regular tablets since stopping ADHD meds.

I can show alone ok but have to be reminded, otherwise I can go a week easy before I remember to shower again, I forget to brush my teeth and wash my face too. It more just forgetting routines, Im in my 30s and still can't remember most days.

I forget to wee sometime so get bladder infections (have had distention previously), bladder infections is why I have antibiotic resistance.

I wear all pull on clothes and slip on shoes.

I struggle to hear with otherstuff too, I never mentioned that though.

I get overwhelmed and hyperactive in groups and really anxious and shy 1 on 1. I avoid groups because its tiring and embarrasing to have a hyperactive spell.

I have never been able to get a job, I apply for lots and have great qualifications but never get past interviews and no where tells me why. The longer this goes on the more impossible it is as now I have had no job for over a decade and no one wants to hire adults with no experiance/history.

Im good with money, they didn't ask about that, if anything I hoard savings for emergancies.

I can get lost in my own back garden, except to take the kids to school (2 minute drive up the road) I dont really go out without my husband (and he drives).

another issue I personally have is I drag my feet when I walk, it ruins all my shoes and I walk into stuff a lot (covered in scars from head to toe). I also struggle to grasp things like door handles, pram handle, I cant hold a pen or cutlery and struggle to fasten carseat buckles or zips on coats.

They said I will recieve a letter in 8 weeks with a result.
