As per normal my kids won't come up Christmas day
I'm, alone as usual1 -
@Sandy_123 have an update for you. My experiment was to leave my heating on all night but set the thermostat to 16.5 degrees. The reason for doing this was because quite a few mornings i got up to temperatures of just 14 degrees, far too cold for me and could hardly walk through pain. Those couple of extra degrees help a lot and felt so much better when i got up.Leaving heating on for 24 hours, so midnight to midnight cost me £5.60.Turning it on when i got up about 7.30 and leaving it on until 11pm cost me £6.32. Throughout the day for both days i did turn the thermostat down slightly to about 19 for some of the hours but didn't increase it to more than 20.5 degrees. My house is 100 years old and not the warmest either, with an EPC rating of D. It will also depend on the size of your house and the energy efficency on the exact cost. Verdict for me is it's worth it just to be warm but i do understand there's a lot of people that just can't afford it.Hope this helps.2

5.60 from midnight to midnight is good going isn't it. I've just turned mine off as the house is warm now and I don't usually have it over night. But I'm interested in trying that.1

I'm being a bit stupid here when you say leave it on 24 hours are the radiators constantly on or do they only kick in when it drops believe tye temperature you have set it at
Even though my timer I'd set for 7 am to 11 pm ot only comes on when temp goes below set temp.
I'm thinking of turning temp down to about 12 while I'm away1 -
It definitely is very good. I was expecting a lot more and was quite nervous all day until I had the update on the app. Temperatures tonight are just above freezing and I’m out early tomorrow morning so I will probably turn it off before bed tonight. If you do try it for 24 hours please let me know how you get on.1
-
@janer1967 yes mine is the same, once the temperature gets to what it’s set to on the thermostat then the heating goes off. It will only come back on then once it drops below the set temperature.Whether 12 will kick it on will depend on how cold your house is.0

Does anyone know how the cold weather payment works? Does it have to be below 0 on every single day for a 7 day period, or is it just the average over 7 days? We have had -5 to -9 or so for the last 5 days and it's due to be around 5 degrees for the next 2 days. So averaged out it's still been freezing for a week but obviously we haven't had 7 days of freezing if that makes sense.
For example if the average temperature over a week is
-7
-5
-5
-4
-5
+2
+2
That's still averaged below 0 over a 7 day period, but not below 0 every day over 7 days? Would that trigger a payment or not?
Thanks
PS just re-read and I think I was being dumb - the key words may be "consecutive days" so it has to be below 0 every day - so my example would not trigger a payment. But leaving my question up just in case.0 -
Hi everyone, sorry if I missed some posts but there were like 80 posts since I last logged in and it just seems overwhelming to read them all. I'm sorry if I missed something important.
I hope everyone is well today.2
