Humanity has been 'modified', we started out as herbivores and have become carnivores, now some have chosen to become herbivores.  :)

I'm a wholefood freak. I can't even look at the things from McD's, KFC, etc, without feeling sickly...that beige stuff isn't food! Lol!

Escargot! There is a Mr. Bean movie and he is in a restaurant in Paris. He orders escargot, I think. It is a long time ago and I can't rightly remember. But he doesn't like the escargot, if that's what it was, and he puts them in a napkin and deposits them in a ladies handbag. That is my recollection of the movie and it may be wrong.

Years before that movie came out I had my own Mr. Bean escargot experience in a restaurant in Cardiff. I was only young and didn't know how to conduct myself in good restaurants. I love trying new food so ordered the escargot. I hated them, but didn't know how to send them back. I managed to wrap them in an hanky, took them to the loo and put them in a bin. I thought that's a good job done, that's the end of the escargot.

It all came to nothing when the waiter came to collect the plates. He wanted to know where the shells were. So trying to sound innocent I said what shells? He said the shells the escargot were in. I thought to myself front it boy, and I said I ate them. So the waiter asked quizzically "you ate them"? There was a pause and then my partner, who loved to wind me up and could keep a completely straight face, said were they extra crisp and crunchy, just how you like them?

I realised I had been sussed so I made a full confession telling the waiter I didn't want to make a fuss by sending them back. My partner and the waiter could hardly keep a straight face.

To this day I can't stand the thought of escargot and never ordered them since.

I'm afraid beige stuff is the only thing I eat. I have a 95% beige-only diet lol. But not McD's, KFC etc!

I don't like things that have bits or mixes textures. I don't like anything that can change. Take bread, as long as you stick to a brand and a type it's always the same. Same for biscuits or plain pasta or rice or cheese.

That must be quite challenging for you at times, @Adeline. I suppose my diet can be too! Many years ago I went to a wedding reception and there was just nothing I could eat only the bits of lettuce and tomatoes that were used to decorate the plates. Everyone's plates were piled high and I had lettuce and tomatoes...it looked like I had loads of willpower and was on a strict diet lol.

We have that in common @louise321, I remember once in Junior school, lunch was advertised as Fish Fingers, it ended up being Mushy Peas, and I was literally sick when attempted to eat them.

I eat almost NO Vegetables, it's the textures you see (it's an Autism thing)

I do eat Carrots occasionally, but even then they've got to be tinned and not fresh.

I have heard about the vegetable thing, that must be difficult.

Are there any supplements you take to try and offset the lack of vitamins and minerals?

I don't eat meat or dairy, but luckily plants can replace meat, but not so much the other way around.

I'm similar to you @SheffieldMan1976. I've found that I can stomach carrots and parsnips if they've been roasted so they're a bit crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside - similar to a potato! Have you tried sweet potato?

Do you eat a lot of Quorn then @ColonelBlink? I like the fillets and 'chicken' pieces. Oh and the peppered steak is delicious.

As it happens I've just had Chicken Dippers and chips for tea.

I avoid meat substitutes mostly, as they are highly processed, just like alot of meat based burgers and sausages etc.

I had a "Lebanese Style Protein Bowl" an hour or so ago - tahini tomato sauce, chickpeas and aubergine, herby tabboleh, grilled red pepper muhammara, and creamy spinach aand 'feta' mix.

The 'feta' wasn't actual cheese, as was a vegan meal. It was probably tofu.

Ah are you a beige eater like me @SheffieldMan1976?

That protein bowl sounds very healthy @ColonelBlink. I really need eat better but I really struggle with texture.

I will have to accept what you say about texture, I have no idea how to relate to such things. I have foods i dislike by smell or taste, but have never turned something down over how it felt in my mouth. I have never enjoyed pickled beetroot for example, I just don't like the smell of the vinegar.

I wish I could be like that. I don't really have a sense of smell, it comes and goes. It's probably a good thing otherwise I might not eat anything! I love vinegar on chips, is the smell of vinegar in the beetroot different?

As a lad, we often had a joint of roast silverside on a Sunday, with Monday's tea being leftover meat, with chips and peas.

I hated seeing the purple beetroot juice mixing with the gravy on my parent's plates, the smell used to turn my stomach, especially when the plates were cold, but still on the table.

The smell association with beetroot from a jar, it has stuck with me all those years. I am happy eating sliced beetroot in a salad.

I'm imagining the juice and gravy mixing together and yeah, it doesn't sound nice! It's amazing how things from our childhood stay with us.
