  Did you ask why you weren't entitled to it before that date? Being awarded from 1st May suggests they believe that you had the difficulties when you first rang to start your claim.
  

  
  

  If you disagree with that decision then you can request the Mandatory Reconsideration on the decision not to award you from the date you rang to start your claim.
