    Hi jaynESAM,

If your benefit has been stopped following an ESA decision that you are fit to work then you can appeal against this decision. You have to ask for a mandatory reconsideration first. There's no payment of ESA during the mandatory reconsideration period and some people have to claim Jobseeker's Allowance during this time to ensure they have some money coming in. If your mandatory reconsideration is unsuccessful you can appeal to the tribunal and once you've lodged your appeal, the basic rate of ESA should be re-instated until the appeal is heard. This doesn't apply if you missed a medical assessment or you didn't send your form back though.

If you're receiving housing benefit to help with your rent, talk to the housing benefit department and tell them what has happened. They can assess your housing benefit on a NIL income basis until you work out what to do next and to ensure your rent continues to be covered.

If things get so bad that you can't afford food, gas, electricity or other essential costs, your local authority may have an emergency assistance scheme which can help.

Which part of the country do you live in? I will look and see if there are any local support services which can help you with this.

    Best wishes
    Debbie
