I'm pretty new here. Not "new" - exactly the opposite! Quite old, actually. Followed a link about hearing aids, commented after registering - here I am again following an email received from the servers re that h.aid post. Something about a badge?
But. Re online purchase. Mine was an Ipad, gen 10. I had, no that's wrong. I still do have a Gen. 9 device whose screen glass did a kamikaze act for no clear reason, so needed fixed. Having become quite dependent on it, I didn't like the prospect of being ipadless while the Appleseeds pored over the ruined screen. So. Bought a new Gen 10 to tide me over, but in case that makes me sound like a scattercash wastrel, there was reasoning involved too. I use these things for a multiplicity of doings, watch videos, emails, general browsing and suchlike, and since many ipad incidents result from being dropped while being carried I thought that if I had one in each of the two sites in the house where my time is spent, then the risk of carry-dropping one would be avoided. Well - reduced anyway.
As it happened, the local repairer fixed it in less than 24 hours so that was one reason blitzed. So I'm clinging hard to the one remaining. Fact is, I'm enjoying having the two devices.
Pretty long winded, I know. I'm like that.
If anyone wants to know who the repairer was, I'll let the secret out. But since forums can have policies agin businesses getting a mention, I won't here unless asked to. Are there PMs here? If so, anyone curious could use that.1 -

My Mum bought a basic game board online because she found a set of chess pieces but no board and she wants to learn to play chess. It came and it was in a really bad state, it looked like one from a GP surgery or somewhere that has been used hundreds of times. She asked to return it for a refund and which they granted but they asked for it back which I thought was odd, because it cost £7.50 and that's for a new one, the one we got is probably unsellable, so I wonder why they wanted to pay to get it back?

I bought a game that was on sale while I was shopping for other boardgames. It's called Akrotiri and is about 2 players trying to find ancient ruins in the Aegean sea. I haven't played it yet but it looked like a fun game I could play with my partner.
I also (in person) recently bought the 5-6 player expansion for Catan and got given Scythe. The city near to me has a boardgame cafe which I really do want to visit sometime.0 -
@Jimm_Scope have you ever been to a board game cafe before? I've been to one several years ago and it was quite fun, it was more of a board game bar as they served alcohol but it had a nice atmosphere1

I have been to one yes! I was friends with someone who owned/ran one in Glasgow. Sadly it shut down over Covid. I haven't really been to one since 2019, but it's finding a group to go with usually. Though just me and my partner could go.0

I really want to find one, and play dungeons and dragons or find a group that plays that. I remember playing it as a teen and really loved it. I don't know if theres any board games cafe's near me though and struggle to goto places I've not been before, but I know if I find one and feel comfortable i'd love it.

I just remember it being super fun, and developing your charactor. I might do some research and see if I can find a good online group that does it. Shadow bought herself a new small scratching post with a large comfy seat on top of it, & a cubby hole to hide in on the base. She used my money, but said it was a bargain at half price, & she also bought a windowsill cushion for my son's cat, so she wasn't being selfish at all. She's really good at using the keyboard, & has watched how I buy things online, so seized the opportunity when I wasn't looking 6

Not 100% sure but from what you say I think I am maybe kind of similar to you socially in a way and I had a similar fear
I don't like to stereotype but the kind of people in the board game bar/cafe were like ... not really sure how to explain without being maybe rude ... but a bit quiet / awkward / maybe even nerdy? ... I fitted in well!!!!
Normally I wouldn't dare to go into a normal bar but this one wasn't full of like aggressive people or people trying to chat each other up and there were no bouncers 2 -

I missed all the D&D talk, boooo! A friend used to go to a local store that ran D&D nights, it sounded great fun, but was always too busy for me. But plenty of places do online games over Discord and such @rubin16 @66Mustang
I'm looking into using Tabletop Simulator for the PC, so I can play Warhammer with friends across the pond.1 -
@Albus_Scope I know what you mean about things being too busy but I did find the board game place attracted people that seemed to present similarly to me, so like it wasn't loads of loud people but more shy types but who were nice when you found something to talk about
I would actually rather go into a place that's bustling with people I can relate to, than maybe only 1/3 full but with people who I don't really gel with if that makes sense!!

I used to play with it with a friend when I was like 17, I miss it so much. The stories and adventures were epic and building up your charactor was so much fun. I might do some research and find some groups that do it would love to get into it again. Need to find someone whos a good gamemaster and good at storytelling as my previous friend was really good at it and kept you immersive.

@rubin16 it's definitely worth looking into, I found D&D groups great for my neuro-spiciness. I'll have a look and see if I can find info on it all and do a new post later. 3 -

Its all gone over my head and over the garden wall. I’ve absolutely no idea what your talking about. LOL. Thought at first a D & D was a disco dance night out so was to crowded for @Albus_Scope

I actually may learn something. I use to play solitaire. Lol.
haha D&D stands for dungeons and dragons. Its where you build a charactor and follow a storyline and roll dice for different options, and you complete quests. Its really fun
