Care assesment was dismissive/confusing

Hello,

So about a year ago I wanted to access an employment support org to get help with finding a job and accommodations on work.
I reached out and they told me that I needed to contact the council to get a referral, so I did and they told me I d have to have an appointment.

I got an email and found out it's a care assesment, got a bunch of documents telling me what questions they LL ask and so on. I wasn't quite expecting that but thought that it would be so useful as I been struggling with chores, cooking, socialising, traveling etc.

But once the assesment came around they kinda shut me down and went "you want a referral for X? Ok do you have a diagnosis. Ok. Yeah I LL do that". I tried talking about my issues and the person was being very dismissive. I asked if I can at least tell them what I written down that I struggle with and they were like "sure" and the whole time it felt like they weren't even listening (maybe playing on their phone?). And then they just went "ok have a nice day" and hung up. I felt so disheartened and disappointed.

I haven't thought about it for awhile but is there anything I can do? Was this my only chance to get a care assesment?

Hi @Pan, that certainly shouldn't have been the only way to get an assessment. It also really wonders what it was for? It seems like you weren't fully informed about what it was for. Even afterwards they didn't tell you what was going on.

Even if it wasn't the right thing for you, which I don't think we know the answer to because it's not been explained, you should've been told what it was for at least.

I understand the feeling of being disheartened, but it certainly wasn't your only chance. You will be able to go to ask for another care assessment. They have to allow for it incase people's conditions get worse for example.
