Changes to PIP

Giving people vouchers instead of money, makes the PIP name meaningless.
It's called Personal Independence Payment for a reason. At least the cash payments give us financial Independence.
PIP is a passported benefit. If you get the higher rate, it means you are entitled to go on the Motability scheme, Blue badges and other things. People will have to give up their mobility cars if cash payments were stopped.
I think this rumoured voucher scheme is stupid. How can the government say that the welfare bill is too high and then think about stopping cash to give people vouchers. The cost in printing vouchers and admin would be a fortune.2 -
I am glad you can see through their lies when they say that the government is "broke".Ironside1990 said:Giving people vouchers instead of money, makes the PIP name meaningless.

Hello All. Well. I've read and read, not just on here but on the gov site too, I've this has been going on since february. I cannot keep quiet any longer. I've never felt so stressed and I've had some stressful moments in my life, believe me.
Ok so here it is in short.....ish.
60 years young worked all my life up until 16 years ago. Had to finish work. Hubby the same two years older, always worked. four weeks after I finished, he had Heart Attack. Heart Op sorted him out and he has now turned into my carer. Had income support, higher level. PIus Carers Allowance. then onto PIP, They cut me down, then again. In Feb, 2024 I was asessed again. I was awarded nothing at all. Also, I noticed that none of our benefit had gone into the bank. It took me the best part of a week to find out that I would have to put in for universal credit. No housing benefit, No council tax benefit. a few weeks on.....Rent team telling me what they are going to do in taking next steps in repossesing our home. They do not recognise my doctors reason for my sick note and will make up their own minds if they think I am fit for work. we now get universal credit. £800 monthly 500 Rent and 270 direct debits. pip?? oh, they will let me know when they have done a reconsidoration. |I'm not holding my breath.
I've told my husband and daughter I've found a wonderful cheerful group of people. And now I've just gone and shown my worst side. When people say about mental health and how it can affect your life, you don't know until you''ve been there. Yes I've suffered with anxiety and depression in the past but these dirty tricks to do on people who would really prefer not to be claiming in the first place. It is sickening. I cannot see any good coming our way soon. If they are dismissing the words my doctor wrote on a 3 month sick note. They've not even asked me to fill in the form to apply for the extra benefit yet. Sorry to have taken up so much of the precious post. Take Care all. Netty.

What keeps me level about this is that unless a political miracle happens the Tories will not be in government after the next election.
The question is how will Labour treat this subject?

I’ve watched that. It’s shocking. It’s not bad enough we have to go through hell to even get pip. Fight fight is all we ever do. We can never even have a day without a new threat of some kind. Pip is as we know personal y payment. They can’t turn it into controlled payment as they will be disabling us totally. I agree no medical evidence no money but us that have multiple problems with evidence leave us alone.Luchia said:
Couldn’t agree more, I held onto my job until it was physically impossible to continue, I was warned by Doctors for several months before I had to hand in my notice but I just couldn’t physically do it anymore.OverlyAnxious said:
I've never understood this mentality. Personally I hate not being able to work. Even assuming they feel no guilt for taking money they haven't 'earnt', how on earth do they manage to fill their days without working?Luchia said:
Rather than target genuinely suffering people with MH & Physical disabilities they should be going after the ridiculous amount of fake claimers, There’s an excellent documentary series on 4 that called “Benefits Britain” & “Skint Britain” that blatantly show people with absolutely 0 need for benefits and are perfectly able to work but as quoted from one of the people on that show “Why work when I can get it all for free”.
I highly recommend watching “Skint Britain” as the people on it are absolutely disgusting and definitely earned the title of “Scroungers”.
They show absolutely 0 guilt or remorse and even brag how easy it was to get thousands in benefits for doing nothing, that’s who they need to targetUk sends money and help to other countries. Keep letting ppl in here at a massive cost to us all but why can they be allowed to cut our lives off because the gov have spent billions on the boat loads every week. It’s outragious and cannot happen3 -
@cazdee
I think you are going off course here. Yes, Government send money to other countries but it is to help them to fight and kill each other and to cause instability in those countries. So don't blame people fleeing such countries.
Also, if there is no "foreigner" coming here, that doesn't mean the Government would treat disabled and vulnerable people better.

I don't know what sending money to other countries has to do with PIP. There are some very sad things happening in some countries right now and I for one am very thankful I live here and not there. If I did live there then I would be one of those trying to escape on a boat.cazdee said:

There's other ways of responding to the proposals but please leave out other countries because it's really not nice. How to respond
If you'd like to let the government know what you think about the proposed changes, there is a form to complete online. You can also respond by post or email. The consultation will be open until 22nd July 2024, so be sure to add your responses before then.6 -
This is not a nice group it’s full of ppl that like the sound of their opinion only sooner it’s deleted the better1

Every time this proposed pip reform turns into a thread it ends up in arguments and disagreements.
I know it's hard and there's a lot riding on this proposed pip reform but you really must not let this get to you, again all of this rides on the Tories winning the next election.
I endorse any political party who realises that disabled people are human beings who deserve to be treated with compassion and respect. PIP provides disabled people in or out of work with further financial stability, stability is important in our lives, especially when you're in some form disabled.
Sorry for the long comment, I checked my emails and saw the replies to this thread. I get upset because people are upset and this government knows we're upset and they don't care because they want the money.

Thank you
for your compassionate reply1 -
Goodness, the form is, so long and complicated. You need a PhD to complete the form. They hardly make anything easy for us, do they?1

They clearly believe that pip is only paid to those out of work

Yes you are right it’s just outrageous how many times we fight the same thing. It’s exhausting2
-
When I was awarded PIP, 2 years ago - for an on-going period of 10 years - nothing was said of any reason for this to change or even stop - so I honestly believe that even if the Tories did win another term - or Labour win and try a similar route - that current disabled claimants would legally be safe from changes to our current benefits.I am unsure, legally how new claimants would stand though.Ministers have proposed a new six-tier system of disability benefits, with six different payment rates, that could see many PIP recipients receiving less money than they do now.

I know you’re right it’s appalling that it’s even debatable. They are trying to disable us by taking everything away it’s terrible1
