The disability premium of £42.50/week is automatically added.
As your award is standard daily living you won’t be entitled to the Enhanced Disability Premium. You will be entitled to Severe Disability Premium of £81.50/week if no one claims either carers allowance or carers element of UC for looking after you.The figures quoted are the new April rates. What’s the reason you’re claiming Income Support? Is it because you’re a carer claiming carers allowance for looking after someone?0 -
Thank you poppy, yes I am a carer for my mam for the past 8 years, ok thank you so is it correct I will receive my 2 weekly payment of £100 plus sdp, as my income support was normal today and nothing else'poppy123456 said:The disability premium of £42.50/week is automatically added.

Has your PIP award been put into payment yet? If so and that was recently there may not have been time to include the disability premium in time for this payment. You need to ring them to apply for SDP. The form can be filled in over the phone, it doesn’t take too long.Your IS will increase by £124/week.0

Hi yes and all backdated payments I received in 8 days of being awarded, so yes prob a bit too soon, I will give them a ring I just presumed it was automatic, thank you for your help, I never realised the additional payment, so the £124 per week is on top of the £50 I already receive I presume that also gets back dated from the time I applied for pippoppy123456 said:Has your PIP award been put into payment yet? Yes on top of what you already receive now. Paid from the date you rang to start your PIP claim. As I advised, the disability premium is automatically paid but the SDP isn't.1

OK thank you very much I understand, I rang income support on the 18th and did the online form for the SDP said could take 2 weeks, and said the other is automatic, but when I have recieved my income support today it has not changed, does it take a period of time for it too be added on as I presumed because I spoke to the lady on the 18th my next payment today it would of been thank upoppy123456 said:Yes on top of what you already receive now. It may take a few weeks because a decision maker needs to make the decision to award you SDP before it can be included.Jon7777777 said:

Aww ok thank u poppy, I just presumed the SDP was an addition, and the other one was just automatic which would of been applied before I applied for the sdppoppy123456 said:

Yes the disability premium is automatic but a decision maker still needs to award it. If it's not added for your next payment then give them a ring.0

So in theory if it's not added next payment it is adding on to the back payments, do the back payments come on the same day as normal payments or are they spontaneous thank upoppy123456 said:Yes the disability premium is automatic but a decision maker still needs to award it. Hi everyone.need some advice .i have been receiving income support and pip since 2012. I have had a letter from dwp saying I could be entitled to claim sdp .my son lives with me he is in receipt pip . .i rang income support and spoke to a very understanding gentleman.explain to him about the form
i recieved and we filled it on the phone .and said he is going to put it to be back dated .can they back date for that long ? .hope some one can explain this .thank you0 -
If entitled then it will be paid from when you became entitled to it. It may take a while for them to make a decision because of the length of time involved. The reason it wasn't included is because it's not automatically paid due to the criteria involved.minime8 said:Hi everyone.need some advice .i have been receiving income support and pip since 2012. Just recieved SDP and disability premium, I know my pip is not counted as income for housing benefit, council tax, but are the 2 disabilitys counted as income thank u0

Not for housing benefit no. Can't advise about council tax reduction because all local Authorities have their own rules.Jon7777777 said:Just recieved SDP and disability premium, I know my pip is not counted as income for housing benefit, council tax, but are the 2 disabilitys counted as income thank u0 -
OK thank you poppy as I was going to ring them on Monday just to inform them of change of circumstances, I just presumed it did count as income as my housing benefit has not went in as normal and I thought that was the reason why as my income support with disability on and carers allowance has made me not entitled to itpoppy123456 said:

Just recieved my breakdown from income support disability premiums etc and I have noticed carers premium £45, am confused as I have never recieved carers premium as a benefit before thank u0

As you're claiming Income Support I would expect you to be either claiming carers allowance or have a child under the age of 5. If you're claiming carers allowance then yes there would be a carers premium included because carers allowance would be deducted in full from your IS. You would then receive carers allowance as a separate benefit paid either weekly or 4 weekly.0

Thank u poppy
