PIP assessment questions about working

Hi,

Does anyone know if the assessor will ask questions about whether or not you are working?

    Yes they do...often one of the first things they ask .

    Have you had adaptions made at work. I've just been successful in my claim and work full time, I told them my job is sat down, I'm given a comfortable chair, have longer breaks to allow for slower walking times and a lower target. Luckily I work for a good company who understand my issues which is lucky as needed a lot of time off so far this year. Good luck with your assessment 😊

    Hi,
    It is possible and highly likely that they may ask about your current work status. Whilst this may seem like a simple straight forward question, you should be aware that an assessor can glean an awful lot of information from your replies.

    Work doesn’t affect personal independence payment (PIP) in so far as PIP is not means-tested and you can be paid PIP whether you are working full-time, part-time or not at all. The type of job you undertake also doesnt matter either, with a caveat (see below)

    However, you do need to be aware that work can likely affect the points you score in your PIP assessment and thus whether you are eligible for an award and at what rate.  This is because any physical or mental activities that you undertake in the course of your work, or more probably any activities the health professional assumes you undertake, can be taken into account when deciding what points you score in the PIP medical assessment.

    So, for example, if your work involves moving around or being on your feet all day then this can be taken into account when deciding what you score for the mobility component of PIP.  And if you manage to get yourself out of bed, washed and dressed, buy a bus or train ticket and travel to work then this can all be taken into account for both the daily living and the mobility components of PIP. 

    Any activities in your place of work, even everyday processes such as writing or typing, talking to customers or colleagues and moving around the workplace can also be taken into account.which may or may not effect any award.

    So be prepared in advance so you are not left floundering when they broach the question.

    Yes my partner was asked a lot of questions regarding his job and the assessor made reference to it in her report.

    Is it possible to have enhanced pips in both sections and still work? Also do you need to score full points on every question to receive enhanced rates? How. many points are needed to get enhanced in both categories? Thank you so much.

    Yes it is possible to be awarded Enhanced for both parts while working. For Enhanced for both parts you need to score at least 12 points in daily living and mobility. For standard rate you need at least 8 points in daily living and mobility. The daily living and mobility part are added separately.
