PIP backdated amount
I've just received PIP, included is the backdated from when I applied in January. Is there rules on what this can be spent on? (I definitely won't be frivolous, just don't want to get it wrong)
-I do understand the bit that its not considered for a year regarding UC payments-
Thank you 😊

Heya @mmoo60 I'm so glad it's all finally be sorted for you! That must be a huge relief? You can spend your PIP on whatever you want, there's no laws that say it must be used for x, y or z. But i would say allow yourself a little treat for finally jumping through all of the DWPs many hoops. 😁

You can spend it on anything you want to. You are correct that the lump sum is disregarded from means tested for 1 year from the date you received it.

So would I be OK if I put an amount into my small private pension?

Yes you can do that but if you have no earnings the most you can put in over a year is £2,880, which would be made up to £3,600 by HMRC. Please be aware that if you do this they you won’t be able access that until age 55. (Potentially later depending on the pension provider)

Thank you Poppy
Ah interesting to know re the limit. I'm in my 60's already lol, pension in 2027. so just trying to make good choices going forward. So I could set up a small DD to private pension going forward to now?
I shall also be treating myself to a washing machine after last one broke in covid times, which is permitted I believe. Yay!
