Hello!!
So I rang the DWP today because I have had £88 taken of my universal credit for as long as I can remember.
£44- budgeting loan
£44- other loans
so I rang because I though these must surely be nearly paid off by now. So I asked the gentleman who answered the phone how long I had left to pay these loans back and he stuttered and asked me if I was in an insolvency. Which I was. And he went on to explain that when i entered that insolvency 3 and a half years ago the DWP froze the debt recover but the system did not meaning these repayment have been being taken by mistake and they owe me it all back. He then said because I am due a payment on Friday with the £88 deducted he would have to wait until Monday to go through exactly how much I am owed back 🤯.
has this ever happened to anyone here??

It hasn't happened to me but I've read of it happening to others before and they got all of it back. Have you been getting UC and the deductions for the whole 3 and a half years? @lbarrasin24

Thank you for your reply @Biblioklept. And yeah I have been on UC for the whole 3 and a half years. And they’ve been deducting it this whole time.

Hi,
Unfortunately DWP do make mistakes with how huge their payments system is and general human error occasionally. Please be aware that it may not be Monday when you will get backdated, it can take time to add up and authorise it.Hopefully not too long now for you though. -
No I completely understand @bg844. I just didn’t believe it that was all.I was only ringing to check how long I had left to pay them off because I’m pretty sure the loans were only about £800-£1000 so I thought I surely must have paid it by now as they were from 2017! So I was shocked when he said that they owed me money. I’ve been meaning to ring for months now and I just kept forgetting 🤣🤦🏽♀️

It’ll be a nice bonus when it hits your bank account then after all them years. Enjoy whatever you’ll spend it on

Thank you @bg844 and like you say human error is very common so I will wait to hear anymore from the DWP before I start to think of myself a little more debt free than I was last month 😩🤣🤣

Yes this happened to myself and my partner. They over took for a loan and we noticed... eventually lol. We got back about £1500 if I remember correctly! It was a nice bonus at the time. Enjoy spending yours when you get it! 👍
