I'm 26 years old with cerebral palsy and want to move out from my parents house but I struggle to do with daily tasks therefore I don't know how am I going to live on my own. I'm a university student and only have a part time job at university for like no more than 15 hours a month. I only receive PIP and got a motability car which I don't even drive- my parents drive it. They even manage my PIP money. Now, I'm thinking of moving out as I'm nearly finished with my degree and hopefully will begin to work soon. I need advice of moving out to a small flat and get someone to look after me.

@m_chowdhury97 hi and welcome to scope forum l

Have you spoken to your parents about this and are they going to support you? Do you have carers that can help when you move. As you say you struggle with tasks you may need to get carers in place to assist you. You could put your name down on a council waiting list or look at private rent. Private rent is quite expensive and council rent may take awhile to be offered a place. Depending on your circumstances.

    Hi

My mum used to be my carer but I asked her to leave the role. The council gave me social support for 10 hours a week to go out with someone. But they said I'd need to be reassessed if I want to move out. I don't know how because I don't earn enough money for rents and would require everything accessible so I can live on my own.

I don't want parents support as I'm an adult now.

Yes that's understandable housing benefit will help with rent or towards it and will be other benefits you could claim also.

Might an idea to look into those.

Hi @m_chowdhury97! That's a big step and it's pretty amazing to want to do it! I wonder if you could take some immediate steps to help you prepare? Are you able to manage your own money right now? If so I wonder if you could ask your parents to let you manage your PIP money from now on?

I'll think on it more, but I'll also ask my Cerebral Palsy Network colleague to see if they know of any specific support that is available

Hi. I'm also looking for what support would I exactly get when I start to work? For example, I can't drive or travel on my own and I might need someone to look after me while I'm working. I can't afford to pay the PA cost. My condition can flactuate so one day I can do many things other day I can't. And just by seeing me walking can make people think I don't have mobility issues.

There is the government's Access to Work scheme. However, you have to already be in the job, or knowingly starting a job in the next 12 weeks. When you finish university you can also see about Universal Credit and getting a Work Capability Assessment.

    Hi

I applied for universal credit but they rejected my application because I live with my parents and they earn. I'm 26 now

For Universal Credit you are counted as a separate household to your parents, so that won't be the reason your application was rejected. Being a student probably the reason, qualifying for UC when a student is a complex area.

I'd recommend you try a local welfare rights agency for help and advice:

When did you last apply for Universal Credit? As you mention you are a student, and students cannot usually claim Universal Credit, so that may have been the actual reason?

    Hi

Yeah I applied few months ago but I'm still since September 2019. I need someone to advise me what other can I get.

I also need someone to advise me to contact people who can adjust my home according to my disability needs. Since 2 3 years my condition changed a lot so I need some adjustments.

Try the link I posted to find a local welfare rights organisation.

They don't just deal with benefits but a whole range of things that people need help and advice for.
