UC Review Really need some sound advice re UC review
Hi Everyone hope you are all doing good :)
I have a UC review and I am worried I might have done something wrong and hope you can shed some really sound advice for me please.
I will start by explaining my situation so that anyone here can assist me if they know if what I have done is wrong.
Last year after my disabilities got worse for me it was obvious I needed to move home as I live in a very rural part of Devon which is of course lovely and peaceful but really bad if you are a renter and are disabled plus being far from contact with people. Where I satay was only supposed to be temporary but has gone on for 2 years. due to my disabilities and my friend wanting her holiday shally back I started to see what I could rent in the private market but there was nothing within my UC budget and the council has put me in band C which puts me back in number 20 or 30 in the queue.
My dear sweet older brother was so worried about me that he said to me what if you offer 6 months rent upfront to a landlord will that help, I said I really think it might, this was last October. No estate agent will take me on because I am on benefits, I have never been offered even a viewing on a property I have been interested.
Last October my brother put £5000 as a loan into my account to be able to put down 6 months' rent up front and said he would be a guarantor and still nothing agents never ever got back to me. I am still trying but to no avail and quite honestly have given up so this is where I am at now.
My first question is if you have £6000 in your bank account and then you get your UC payment lets say of £1000 on top of the £6000 = £7000 is that all still classed as savings meaning the £7000 I really have never been able to find that out if they include your monthly payment so it would really help me before I ask my next question.
Many thanks
Warm Regards

No, all of that is not treated as savings. The £1,000 from UC payment is not treated as capital until the end of the following assessment period, if there’s anything left. For example, if during that month you only spent £800 and you have £6,200 left then you would need to report that. There would be a £4.35/month deduction for every £250 or part thereof over £6,000.

Dear Poppy thank you so much this is good news but I've obviously messed up as I haven't reported anything ever, Yikes am I in trouble for that Poppy?
My Next question is more daunting for me regarding cash withdrawals, with my health continuously declining and my mobility restraints, I have been blessed with a good kind neighbor who takes me to my appointments and he also gets shopping for me when Morrisons doesn't deliver certain I items I ordered online, which is every week or items I've forgotten to order, so I have been withdrawing cash to pay him and for his diesel and in gratitude a meal out once a month for his kindness for helping me. is this ok to do that?
After I got my PIP and back pay from them I decided to start to give the money my brother lent me back, which I also drew out in cash not all of it but as much as I could draw the day my neighbor would take me to town which was once and sometimes twice a month, I managed to draw over the last 4 month £2000 and I wanted to surprise my brother by giving him something back in cash as he was coming for a mini break and I thought he might like to treat himself down here in Devon, he's been so worried about me as he lives up in Reading and is getting older to drive longer distances now, I still owe him another £3000 but I really just wanted to surprise him and give him something back and he was surprised when I handed it to him and very happy.
Poppy I read online recently if you do cash withdrawals the DWP will investigate it, is this true and have I broken any rules by giving my brother some of his money back now? Please can you advise me as I am a little worried, I'm not the kind of person to break the law and hope I haven't, and if I have it was out of pure ignorance.
Thank you
Warm Regards

Hello is anyone out there who can advise me if I've done something really wrong or if I'm OK?
I am a mess with anxiety with all of this and haven't slept for 3 days.
Some communication would really be appreciated on my situation as I have nowhere else to go for advice and I'm feeling pretty alone right now with all of this.
Thank you
Warm Regards

That's very kind of your neighbour to help you like that. You can spend your money on anything you want, whether you use your card or withdraw cash. If you've never gone over the lower capital amount which is £6,000 then you don't have anything to worry about.
Don't forget also that the cost of living payments if you received those are disregarded indefinitely, providing your capital stayed at the same amount that the total of those payments were.
Also your PIP money that they owed you will have been disregarded for 1 year from the date you received it.

Oh Poppy thank you so much for this data, you have no idea how you have given me such relief with your above message. Poppy you truly are a gift from God to be here for all of us,
You have helped me so much with my UC PIP and LCWRA journey and I thank you so very much for this.
Isn't it funny how frightened one can become from the DWP. I was terrified that I had done something wrong after the things one reads out there on the internet.
Thank you again Poppy for being you and shining such a positive light on us all with your knowledge and help.
This world is truly a better place for people like you and you are truly such a good friend to us disabled people on this sight. Wish I could give you a huge hug for all the help you have given me on this difficult Journey and if there is anything I can ever do for you in exchange for all the sound advice you have given me, please don't ever hesitate to call on me and ask.
Love and Hugs

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, I thought I had commented on this, now I feel really bad because I don't want you thinking I'm being rude. 😑
Thank you so much for such lovely words, they mean a lot! It's always been my pleasure to help people and it makes it even more worth while when members like yourself appreciate it.
DWP terrify many people so you're not alone in thinking that.

Poppy I didn't think you were being rude, I just thought you were busy, so no problem and just to add I've never thought you to be rude. To me you are a good person for helping others and giving sound advice. I trust you and your advice and I couldn't have made things happen without your advice.
I am so grateful and consider myself lucky to have met you on this site.
Thank you so much 🙏
Hugs ❤️

Hello Scope friends I really need some urgent advice please.
I think I have made a horrible mistake and have an interview with UC claim review on Monday, I have been so ill and still am but need to know if I should rectify a mistake in my UC account before my interview and they go over my bank details.
Please let me add im not trying to scam UC but have only now seen that I never changed my savings from 2022 and with the help of my friend/neighbor have just seen it is under the section of what you get paid every month in my UC account which I have never actually checked buts its still saying I have £5600 in savings as that is what I had when I lost my job back in November 2022. I have no way near that kind of money in my account now and am asking if you think I should change it to what I really do have in my account 2 days before the interview or shall I tell the lady in the interview that it is incorrect as I don't want it to look suspicious by doing it now just before the interview but it is the truth that I do not have that kind of money in my account.
My friend/neighbor was helping me with this as I have been so ill recently and am declining unfortunately and he picked this up and said I should reach out and ask you guys what should I do and if I make changes to my UC account will it effect my payment on the 7th of August, Im so stressed out about this and really unwell.
Please can you help and advise me?
Warm Regards

There's nothing to report because you don't have more than £6,000. Under £6,000 capital is ignored anyway.

Hi Poppy, Oh wow that is such good news thank you so much, I have never gone over £6000. So what you are saying is that I don't have to make a change and now give them the lower amount I have in my bank account then ? Phew, I was so worried, thank you, thank you, thank you Poppy :) x

You're welcome. That's correct you do not need to tell them you have less than that.
