Pip
hiya, so I had my pip review form last year that had to be back to them by September 22nd 2023. Bare in mind I was on the standard daily living and standard mobility. They came to a decision and I got my letter on Friday 19th July 2024. They’ve awarded me enhanced daily living and standard mobility. They’ve wrote on the letter they’ve awarded it me from August 22nd 2023 so do that mean I’ll be owed money(stated in the letter we may owe you money and I’ll receive a letter with more info on it) as in will they owe me the difference from what they were paying to my new amount over 11 months of waiting?

Yes. They will pay the money owed from September last year.

how long roughly can that take?

It varies. But not long normally. Usually the money goes in the bank quicker than the letter arrives at your door.

it also states “we will pay you £549 into your usual account on 8th August 2024. This is money we owe you from 11 July 2024 to 7 August 2024” does that mean that’s the only money they owe me or will the also owe me from August/sept 2023 till now?

Yes, sounds like that is backpay and then you will start getting regular payments from 7 August 2024.

this is the whole thing, it’s so confusing

When they award from an earlier date they very often do not pay what is owed straight away, I have no idea what their reasons are for this. The letter will tell you that "we may owe you some money:" which they clearly do because the award is from August 2023.
I don't believe the money that was recently paid into your bank is all the money that's owed. I'd advise you to contact PIP to ask them about the money they owe you and hopefully they will be able to give you more information.

I hope they do. I haven’t received anything yet, the £549 is getting paid on the day my pip is usually paid so the 8th August. But I’m hoping they do owe me the difference since they’ve stated it’s started from the 22nd August 2023 instead of when they made the decision

Ok, seeing the letter makes it clearer. The £549 is your normal monthly payment. The amounts they quote (£101 and £26.90) are not correct, and the £549 should be £547 (I believe). The payments should be £108.55 per week for enhanced daily living and £28.70 per week for standard mobility. £432.20 + £114.80 = £547.
What they owe from August '23 will be paid at some point too. You'll probably get a letter in the next few days.0 -
yeah I’ve just noticed they’ve written the rates wrong, I’m hoping I get the back pay from last year. The DM said on the phone call I had about enhanced daily living and if I was to receive a large chunk of money would I be able to budget it and I said yes so I’m hoping I get it. Just the waiting game I hate

I don't think they do backdate when it's a review that they have initiated, they will pay from the date that they made the decision.
It's unfair when your award is increased and they've taken so long since the assessment, but I'm fairly sure those are the rules.
I think it's different if you request an early review because of a change in circumstances.

In some cases they do backdate the award to an earlier time due to the length of wait decisions are taking for reviews, even when it's a review started by DWP. It doesn't apply to everyone and it seems like a decision maker has their own discretion whether to award from an earlier time.
I've seen a mixture of members receive money owed and some haven't.

that’s what I was thinking. I’ve seen some people say they’ve been given back pay for their review and others haven’t. And seen people say it’s down to the DM whether back pay is given

The amount you'll receive on the 8th August is correct, i.e. £108.55 + £28.70 = £137.25 x 4 = £549.00 which will now be your normal amount payable every 4 weeks from then until Jan 2027 (tho you'll likely receive another review form some months beforehand).
They've decided to give backpay from 22 Aug 2023 & the rates showing in your letter will be last years rates (tho this years rate will apply fom this April). Once the difference between the standard & enhanced rate for daily living has been calculated this backpay will be paid into your account (usually a different date from that when you normally would receive your monies).

I did that calculation so many times on my laptop calculator and it kept coming out at 547, yet I had 549 the first time. Think I need a new calculator!

that makes more sense, how long roughly would the back pay take? Would it come in before or after the 8th August(that’s the day I’d usually receive my pip next month)

It will be impossible to tell you how long it will take. It will be paid as a separate payment to your usual 4 weekly money. If you want to know if it's been paid then you'll need to ring PIP to ask them.

It should surely be illegal that they are paying some people backpay and not others then? It must be a matter of law, not left to the discretion of decision makers. I had to wait a very long time for my review because of covid, even though they accepted my original evidence and increased my award, it was only paid from the decision date. It would have made a huge difference to me if I'd been backdated because I would have been able to replace my elderly car which is on it's last legs now. I feel like somebody should be challenging this legally.

honestly, this is my 2nd review since being on it since 2019. I got the back pay when I first made the claim. Did it in Jan 2019 was awarded standard daily and standard mobility may 2019, then they sent me a review for in 2021 and they awarded me the same. This time they sent it me in August 2023 and only heard back off them July 15th and received my letter 19th July 2024 where they had upped my daily to enhanced and kept my mobility the same(I was 2 points off enhanced mobility) so having a higher award is new to me and seeing the letter and then telling me “you can get this from August 2023” has made me wonder am I getting back pay from then until now or they just gonna leave me without it
