Labour Party manifesto
I found this link with Labour's manifesto should they win the election . Lots of us are worried about what the Conservatives were going to do about getting the disabled back into work and giving vouchers instead of PIP.
I don't know what to make of it but wondering what you all think of it .
Here is a comment that is very reassuring .
Rachel Reeves has made a very clear statement that the Labour's manifesto, unlike that of the Tories, has no need to and absolutely no plans, to cut any benefits at all. They will not, she said, carry out the Tory cuts. This is reassuring, particularly for those on PIP.It is disappointing that Labour did not include some sort of reassurance in their manifesto. But we all know that is just to keep the Tory press off their backs, ahead of the election.

I agree , I have no faith in any of the parties , so won't be voting. I thought the link would help put some of the members minds at rest that is why I posted it .

I am more than slightly concerned about the manifesto (above) - when you search on the word DISABLED - The only mention of the word is when it is linked to WORK.
What about those of us who have spent over 40 years working and are now too ill to even contemplate working again ?
Even disabled support is not mentioned - such things as the 2019 manifesto which looked reasonably promising (Carers Allowance being increased to UC levels etc) has fallen by the wayside - it looks as if Labour are just Tories with another name ?

I have noticed that as a disabled person not of working age I am a non-person, do not exist in political discourse. At both ends of the spectrum, under 18 and over 66, there are a lot of us about, not least because of what would seem obvious, that the proportion of disabled people in the population rises with age.

This is from Wikipedia -
Appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in 2013, Reeves proposed that anyone unemployed for two years, or one year if under 25 years old, would be required to take a guaranteed job or lose access to benefits. This caused controversy within the Labour Party, and Reeves also stated that Labour would be "tougher" than the Conservative Party in cutting the benefits bill.
She caused further controversy in early 2015 by stating "We [Labour] don't want to be seen as, and we're not, the party to represent those who are out of work".
This is lifted from Labour's 2015 election manifesto -
Supporting disabled people to live independently. Alongside strong and responsive public services, the social security system plays an important role in supporting many disabled people to live independently, and must always treat sick and disabled people with dignity.
Half a million families have been hit by the Bedroom Tax, and two thirds of those affected are disabled, or have a disabled family member. It is cruel, and we will abolish it.
We will reform the Work Capability Assessment and focus it on the support disabled people need to get into work. We will give an independent scrutiny group of disabled people a central role in monitoring it. And we will introduce a specialist support programme to ensure that disabled people who can work get more tailored help.

I also learned that Yvette Cooper was Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in 2009 (until ConDems took over in 2010) so quite a few in the Cabinet fully understand how benefits are assessed, awarded and administered.
It was Iain Duncan Smith 🤬 who determined welfare policy between 2010 and 2016.
He was followed by eight (8!) Secretaries of State during the Conservative Party's reign for the next eight years.

They won't do any of it , they are broke , the country is ruined , they will steal off the disabled to pay the illegal immigrants . I believe in freedom of speech so I hope my comment doesn't trigger anyone . Just for the record I am not racist , I have Maltese relatives some live in the UK, but they applied they didn't come here illegally . Thanks .

Hi @staypositive we prefer that people don't blame immigrants for everything, that's not where most of the money goes. I understand you have your own opinion on this, but it's a very delicate subject for many on the community and we'd prefer to keep a more welcoming atmosphere.

They won't do any of it?
The economy is boosted by these work programmes and DWP has been running them since 2008. We all keep these civil servants in work, oh the irony!
For the record, migrants housed with meals provided receive less than £10 a week from the State. That's nothing to envy or resent. The hospitality industry is also boosted through providing these services.
You and I are no more deserving of food and shelter than those people are! Disability doesn't come into it.
ps it's for others to judge whether you or your comments are racist - you don't get to decide that!

The God party have just taken cold weather payments off pensioners who do not receive pension credit . It is very sad that most thought God Kier was going to save the day , lets watch and see what else they take off people . So glad I never voted this satanic party in.

I've been reading your comments and I suffer the same thoughts, and you are correct that its the not knowing what will happen . They who are in government want us in a constant state of fear and stress because fearful people are easy to control . We need to not fear .
