Hi vicki, I'm profoundly deaf from birth and contantly having titinus and my hearing is getting worst and it also affecting my balance....Does that mean I have Vertigo or anything more serious?

Hi Squigg
Whilst tinnitus and balance problems can be quite common with deafness and not usually serious, if they are new symptoms it is best to get them checked out, especially if you notice your hearing getting worse too. Ask your GP to refer you to the audiology clinic (if your local audiology service has a special session for people with severe or profound deafness ask to be referred to this), or an Audiovestibular Physician (a doctor who specialises in hearing and balance problems), or an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. You'll need to have a new hearing test - make sure you let the audiologist know if you find any of the sounds hard to hear because they are similar to your tinnitus. You may like to write down any questions you have beforehand and take these to the appointment to remind you. And if you need communication support (such as a BSL interpreter) ask your GP to make this clear on the referral letter so that this is arranged beforehand and you get the best from your appointment.

Hi Squigg and Vicki . I'm 59 and Diabetic type 1 since 2yrs old my hearing is very bad and miss most conversation, I was referred to the audiology dept and had two hearing aids but was unable to wear them as I also have tinnitus and wearing anything like earphones or aids makes the ringing or banging worse, I wish there was a treatment for tinnitus as I find it more disabling than the deafness sometimes.
