LCWRA reviews and what they mean for you.
Hi, I'm Billie. I'm Autistic, aswell as having ADHD & c-PTSD.
I own/operate a claimant forum on another site (we also have some DWP staff on there as mods), which I don't want to link to, incase it breaches posting rules about 'advertising'.
I just wanted to take the time to explain about the upcoming reviews for people claiming Universal Credit, who also have LCRWA status, to put some of you at ease.
____________________
Recently, we've had a lot of posts on my forum from anxious posters who are concerned about the upcoming reviews of Universal Credit claims for people who are classed as Low Capability for Work & Work-Related Activity (LCWRA for short…
so I thought i'd come over here and offer some reassurance from what my DWP friends have been telling me…
The LCWRA group is being targeted for review, because they are the group that least interact with the DWP. They are reviewing LCWRA claims for two reasons:
- to make sure that everyone in this group is getting what they're entitled to. and…
- to check that nobody's deliberately going over the capital threshold undeclared
they mean undeclared income and/or savings between £6,000 and £16,000, or over £16,000. the DWP just want to double check that money isn't being sneakily moved about between accounts to facilitate deliberate capital deprivation (i.e. deliberately hiding from the DWP that you have any kind of money or comparable valuable items such as stocks and shares, gold, cryptocurrency etc. that takes you over the limit - regardless of how big or small)
_____________________
As a part of the process, the DWP are asking for ID and 4 months of bank statements to support their review of all LCWRA claimants. All they will realistically do is look at the submitted documents, then ring you up to ask a couple of questions about income and outgoings - if they even have any.
an example of what that might look like is if someone the DWP didn't personally know had randomly sent a sum of money to your bank, you'd just explain to them that a friend had sent you some money for whatever reason that was. I loan money to my best friend half the time - mainly whenever she needs an emergency lecky top up without going into emergency credit, or if she needs to get some food in from the lidl.
so if the dole asked me why I sent money to someone named "katrina krazyhouse" (not a real name, obviously) with the reference 'A Lidl Scran', then i'd just have to explain to them that I lent me mate some money to go down to the lidl and get some food in until payday so they don't starve; but mainly to save them the first hand embarrassment of going down to the food bank.

it really is as simple as i've made it out to be…
if you know you don't have any undeclared capital over the limit, that you aren't sending any money off to dodgy/untrustworthy people and that you're not shifting money between accounts to deliberately hide capital from DWP, then let me tell you this… you genuinely have nothing to worry about.
Once you've had that phone call to go through the documents, and you've explained any questions or discrepancies to the DWP, then they should give you the all clear.
hopefully this post has eased people's anxiety quite a bit. any questions, and i'll be very happy to answer them if I know the answer.

Heya @scouse_audhd and welcome to the community from another neuro-spicy helper. 😁
Thanks for sharing all that info, I'm sure it'll put peoples minds at ease. But we do prefer to keep interactions on the community and not via DM, it's a safety thing, I'm sure you understand. 😊

I don’t think the reviews are just for those that have LCW/LCWRA. I’ve known people that don’t have those on their claim to be reviewed.

The. DWP wanted 4 months bank statements from me. I don't know why. The money I've got is what they say the law states I need to live on
But what did bug me was the fact that bank statements have printed on the envelope Private and confidential

Yes they are private but when claiming means tested benefits sometimes they do ask to see those statements.

The phrase "DWP Friends" is not going to be well received by many people who have had to deal with them over the years.

Hi @Dave6x24, welcome to the site :) I assume this is an assessment for your WCA? I'm afraid I don't have any personal experience as I've only gone through a PIP assessment. But there is some information here about assessments from Citizen's Advice:

Hi Dave. Just be honest. Tell them how you are. One thing I would suggest is jotting anything down on a piece of paper you want to say/ ask beforehand. I was worried about mine but as it turned out didn't have any problems. Mine was done by a nurse, I can't remember her name now . Make sure you get your assessors name and job title.
Good luck, please let us know how you get on

Do let us know how it gets on @Dave6x24! Best of luck to you 🤞 Feel free to keep asking questions as well if you aren't sure!
Or even if you'd like to talk about how you're feeling about it.

Hi
I was reassessed last year.
The woman said she was a nurse.
She went through all of the questions and the answers I had given on the form and she was quite thorough.
She referred to the medical evidence I submitted and she asked me if I had been medically diagnosed with my conditions, to which I answered 'yes you have just referred to the evidence/medical reports I submitted'.
She wanted me to elaborate on how my disability affected me and she seemed more interested in what I couldn't do than what I could.
I have kept all my medical evidence since I got ill several years ago and each time I have reapplied for benefits, I submit it all.
I remained in the support group following the .assessment.
I hope yours goes well.
Its so stressful for us all the constant worry and anxiety.

As Poppy123456 has said the UC case review is not just for those with LCW/LCWRA , it is the legacy of the last Tory government ( bye-bye ! ) This is the DWP press statement ….
" DWP is building on this by hiring over 2,500 external agents on a temporary basis as part of the Targeted Case Review to help spot incorrectness in Universal Credit claims. Combined with DWP’s own internal agents in the review, this will take the headcount to nearly 6,000 people.
The DWP is also exploring a new civil penalty to punish fraudsters, potentially broadening the scope of cases that can receive a penalty when the courts are not prosecuting, and increasing the value of the civil penalty.
On top of this, the DWP will also make changes to Universal Credit including new partly automated checks on self-employed income, new online prompts for claimants to re-declare their circumstances (such as if they have moved in with a partner), and increasing checks on capital when people claim the benefit to ensure they are eligible.
These measures will be backed up by advanced data analytics, using machine learning, to detect and prevent fraudulent claims. Final decisions on accepting or stopping any claim will continue to be made by a member of DWP staff." DWP 13 May 2024

As I advised on your thread earlier today, it’s not a review for the work capability assessment. It’s a review of your UC claim itself.

I've heard you don't have to show 🏦 statements guess if don't then they will think upto no good

If you don't provide what they've asked for then your payments will stop.

hi scouse_audhd
I’m very late in reading this news
Could I ask if esa support group claimants roped into this or are the dwp leaving it till during the managed migration process (which I presume is still aim for full completion by dec 2025) or after managed migration is completed and legacy support group claimants have officially move onto uc Lcwra?
Thank you in advance

These reviews are for those claiming UC only. They are not just for those that have either LCW or LCWRA. They are for anyone that claims UC and they are reviewing millions of people. They been doing this for quite sometime and there's been many threads about this on the forum.

Hi.. I just wanted to let you know that I got a message from the DWP recently telling me I would be having a review of my UC and LWCRA claim and that I had to send them my last 4 months bank statements and take in items to confirm my ID….I have been on UC for about 4 years and was only awarded LWCRA last July. So naturally I was a bit worried about it!!
So I had my appointment at the Job Centre today to confirm my ID etc and also uploaded my bank statements…It literally took 5 minutes and the review was only to do with UC and not LWCRA as I thought… The DWP lady informed me that because my UC claim was originally all done online during covid 4 years ago, they just needed to confirm my ID and make sure I am getting the right amount of money and that I am not getting any extra or trying to hide anything from them… Which I am not!
I was very worried about it all but if you have nothing to hide then all will be ok..
I just thought I would share in case anyone has any concerns and I hope this helps.. It really is nothing to worry about at all..🙂
