    Okay what l said refers to those of us given an indefinite DLA award.

    When you’ll be invited to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) depends on when your Disability Living Allowance (DLA) ends. You’ll also be invited to claim PIP if your needs change before your DLA ends.

    Your DLA ends before September 2017

    You’ll be told 20 weeks before your DLA ends and invited to claim PIP.

    Contact the Disability Benefits helpline if your DLA payment is due to end in the next 4 weeks and you haven’t received a letter about making a new claim.

    Your payment may stop if you don’t contact the helpline.

    Your DLA ends after September 2017 or your DLA award has no end date

    You can be contacted any time to claim PIP. This includes if you have a long-term award of DLA or an indefinite award with no end date.

    Not everyone will be contacted to claim PIP right away. You’ll continue to get DLA until Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) writes to you about when it will end.

    Regards Rob

    Then you should not have to be re assessed. If you were born in or before 1952 with an indefinite DLA award, you should continue to receive DLA for life. I think you said you was born in 1949.

    You need to ring them and point this out.
    Please do do it now, you don't need the worry and they DWP have mistakenly asked you to re apply.

    Let me know how you get on.

    Regards Rob

    Hi Jeans

    You certainly would expect them to check, but you have to take into consideration that the DWP have employed outside companies to administer the scheme. Mostly they are manned by people who just don't want to be there. Hence the well being of us is not high on their list of priorities. Did you know the amount of money saved so far roughly equates to the amount this government subsidises the Royal Opera House.

    Regards Rob

    @jeana1

    Anyone on DLA and under 65 on 8 April 2013 will have to reapply and be assessed for PIP when contacted by the DWP.  I was on DLA and aged 68 when I was contacted by DWP in Aug 2016 to inform me that my DLA was ending and inviting me to apply for PIP.  I was assessed for PIP by Atos in Oct 2016.  There are many members of this community who were under 65 on 8 April 2013 who were contacted recently by DWP to inform them that their DLA was ending and that they would have to be assessed for PIP.

    Hi have u been sorted yet? Yes i was born in 1949 too! Seems we just missed out on the age thing with dla...really cant see the logic of it..after 60 i think were all in the same boat getting older..! Hope u got your pip ok...im still waiting...
    Good luck! J ps..im 68 in june..

    Hi Jeana  Hubby to missed out as born in 1949, so annoying as well.  As you say after 60 we are all getting older and the health reasons we got the DLA in the first place all them years ago  is bound to be worse. Anyhow hubby had his assessment four weeks ago, lost the higher rate of mobilty, got standard rate for both, but missed out by 2 points on getting the higher rate. The 2 points were lost by saying he could walk over 20 meters without pain! He has RA and is in pain all the time. But at the end of the day relieved to have got something seeing he was under no specialist  anymore.  Thankfully he still had his original DLA paperwork from 20 yrs ago which seemed to help.  My turn next but i wont hold my breath as M.E.  and no medication and  hardly any proof at all.

    I was 68 when DWP contacted me Aug 2016 and had to apply for PIP.  There are several members on here who were over 65 when contacted who had to apply for PIP (because we all were still under 65 on 8 April 2013).

    The rules you are quoting @Robs apply to new PIP claimants, not to those who were on DLA on 8 April 2013 and still under 65.

    Matilda this is correct, anyone still under 65 on the 8th April 2013  and already had the DLA  still have to apply for the PIP.  Hubby missed it by months so had to apply for PIP he was born Jan 1949.

    @sue66

    PIP points are awarded according to how your medical conditions affect you, not for the conditions themselves, i.e. your abilities to carry out certain everyday tasks, and how far you can walk.  Suggest that you look at the PIP application advice on the Disability Rights and CAB websites.  Pay attention to the list of descriptors.  Submit a diary with your PIP form.

    And have a look at these two documents:

    This one is how assessors are supposed to conduct assessments:

    Thanks Matilda, yes we knew this which is probably how he managed to get the standard rate. I will look at both the links though as may help me for my turn!

    Hi @jeana1, Just to add to what others have told you. Suggest you have a look at the sample video on the ATOS website. I know your assessment won't be in an office but you are entitled to see the computer screen i.e.what is being written and be able to correct it if it's not what you said. Be especially careful when they do the physical exam. as a lot of the results are recorded incorrectly on purpose. Have an independent witness there i.e. not family if you can. They are able to take notes which you can later check against the assessor's report. Ring DWP as soon as poss. after your assessment to ask for the report to be sent to you. Forewarned is forearmed so they say. Good Luck..

    Jeana ring your MPs Office. I did and found them very helpful. They employ case workers, who will ring for you. You will get a response much quicker. The DWP have six dedicated lines for MP case worker calls. I phoned my MPs office and got my award a week later and didn't  need a home visit.
