Proposal of vouchers for pip

HI all, I'm wondering how PIP vouchers instead of cash will assist me in being able to have my daily personal care? At the moment, either my daughter inlaw or daughter assist me with this as I have permanent nerve damage in my arm and can't use it. I need assistance showering, washing my hair, drying me, helping me to dress etc..I pay for their taxis out of my pip for them to be able to attend me.

I've been racking my brains to figure out how that system would even work with personal care. Anyone know how would vouchers, if implemented, would work?

    There's no vouchers planned because nothing has been announced. Everything you've read or heard is just speculation and nothing more.

    If changes do happen it will take a very long time for everything to be put into place, it certainly won't be done overnight.

    Yes I understand that it hasn't been announced but what I do understand is that the proposals introduced by the Conservatives have not been scrapped by the new Labour Government as yet so far. It's just so worrisome. But thank you for replying.

    They'll go over the green paper feedback, which will take ages.

    We'll see what Rachel Reeves says in the autumn budget as well.

    Like Poppy says, nothing will happen overnight.

    I'd try not to worry too much @pjgumna the new government haven't scrapped anything yet as they'll be wanting to read over the green paper feedback first, just to follow proper procedure. But I think they already know the vouchers idea is unworkable.

    Everyone's situation is different and having a disability is complex. Vouchers would be a one size fits all situation. I like having PIP as it empowers me as a disabled person and gives me financial independence.

    Vouchers wouldn't do that.

    Well said @Ironside1990 we are all unique in our disabilities. Vouchers definitely wouldn't work for everyone.

    I honestly hate people saying, that it is just talk and nothing has been announced yet.

    IF and I do say IF, rather than WHEN, and I do mean WHEN rather than IF.

    However, I have to follow the Scope guidelines.

    I will give scenarios

    Best case scenario

    Nothing changes

    Worse case scenario

    Vouchers and receipts etc at first I thought that it might take years to happen.

    However, when I think about it more, it would be a lot easier to implement.

    So imagine shopping at your supermarket. you buy a tin of tomato's, you then send that receipt back to the supermarket and then you get your money back.

    However, vouchers you get them through your door all the time, two pizza's but unless you have the money, you are not going to buy.

    I voted to get the former Government out of office, thinking that the new Government would be better.

    However, that is not looking good, they have already attacked pensioners, so I mean come on.

    Scope and the moderators, have to get a bit more realistic, rather than giving people false hope.

    If you prepare for the worse now, and it happens, then well you are going to have to live with it. If you prepare for the better, and then the worse happens then you are going to be worse off than you are thinking the worse.

    I doubt very much if this will get published, but at least I am telling the truth rather than giving false hope to people.

    @Needhelpandadvice

    This is why I asked the question. I keep getting DWP news notifications on my phone concerning these pip vouchers, and only This morning I've had a news item stating that Labour are looking at the green paper, so I am very worried about it.

    I mean, since they've scrapped the winter fuel payments to the pensioners already, who are some of the most vulnerable in our society, I don't trust Labour not to change the pip system. Pip allows me to be able to receive the proper care I need and I'm worrying 😟

    This business of vouchers is not just between the DWP and the claimants. There's a third party or rather thousands of third parties, retailers and providers of services who'd have to be persuaded to play along, which means be bothered with the admin of processing the vouchers and getting - waiting for - their money from the DWP. Why should they when they could have actual money?

    @Needhelpandadvice no one is giving anyone false hope. All we've had on here for months is speculation after speculation and it's just awful. It's not helping anyone that people are constantly asking about this or constantly saying they heard that or read this.

    No, you haven't got any DWP notifications because they've haven't mentioned anything at all. Where ever they are from you should ignore them.

    You say that im concerned as this new government has already in their short time of being here managed to stop the winter fuel payments for the elderly. I wouldnt be surprised if they changed PIP / UC to a voucher system overnight.

    Hey @iamlawrie The government have made the winter fuel payments means tested, so they've not been stopped completely. It's also due to be voted on to see if it will go ahead.

    It's still available for people over 66 who are claiming;

    Pension Credit
    Universal Credit
    income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
    income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
    Income Support

    If she's claiming any of the above, then she will be able to claim. Though as we still don't have any idea what'll happen with the budget, anything could change. They may even lower the bar for people who can claim. We just don't know.

    Apparently there's currently 800,000 people who are entitled to the winter fuel allowance who haven't claimed still. So it's worth looking into.

    Surely the kind people who run this website should only focus on facts and not speculation. Which is exactly what they are doing.

    Can you imagine how out of control these forums would get if the moderators got involved in speculation.

    @Needhelpandadvice

    I said DWP 'news' notifications, not DWP notifications

    @iamlawrie @Albus_Scope Yes, what strikes me about the list of other benefits is how much they're for people of working-age, so making them a criterion is a bit of a con. How many 80-year-olds are on JSA?

    You are correct and I apologise if it came across as speculation. we much prefer to deal with the actual facts as they come out. The point I was trying to make is no one knows what is going to happen, if anything.
