ok, thank you. I'm so glad you know what you're doing and are happy to advise as i have no clue.

I've just had another look and can see that they have verified both children this afternoon.

I think my first payment may have come through before they were verified (this morning).

so rather than message, shall i wait until my next statement (beginning Oct) to see if they're added on and payments adjusted?

You're welcome. Honestly, this happens a lot where the first payment after migration may not be correct. There could be elements missing because they haven't been able to verify them in time or if there's any entitlement to Transitional Protection (TP) this may not even be calculated in time. I've heard that happen so many times and it's because the department that was previously paying your benefits haven't sent the figures to UC in time.

Usually when this happens your statement is recalculated soon after that first payment. Glad they have now verified the children so your statement should now be recalculated.

Please contact Citizens Advice help to claim. They are trained advisors to help through the whole process of migrating to UC and are there to help you every step of the way. This has been advised many times.

    Good Afternoon Poppy,

Thank you for your reasurrance. I logged on this afternoon and they have recalculated.

I'm not sure if you would know, but I honestly have no clue, they could be paying me over or under what they are meant to, so i'll ask anyway. does this look correct please?

    standard allowance for a couple - £617.60

    2 children - £621.25

    carer - £198.31

    transitional protection - £261.18

    carers allowance - minus £354.90

That looks correct but can't advise about the Transitional Protection. (TP)

You're welcome. The money will be paid into your bank on the date it says in the statement.

Thank you, and in regards to my husband not being able to work (he's on PIP, i'm his carer) so i'm guessing an assessment?

He will need to report his health condition and provide a fit note. Sorry, I can't remember if he's already done that and it's a long thread to read back through.

If he's already done that then the next step is he will be referred for the assessment. Once that is done he will have a letter on his journal telling him they've referred him. A few days later he will receive the UC50 form in the post.

Please also note that if he's found to have LCWRA then this will completely erode the Transitional Protection because this element is £416.19/month from the 4th month after he provided his first fit note, which is more than your TP so it will reduce to zero.

Thank you - health condition reported from when we applied, and he's provided 2 fit notes so far.

So now we just wait for the referral message?

    Thank you

Thanks, that's what I thought. He should have been referred from around day 29 after providing the first fit note. They do sometimes forget so put a message onto his journal and ask them to refer him.

Thanks Poppy, seems like we have been a bit forgotten in this whole process. Finally received the UC50 in the post.

Any tips on this or do i just fill it out and send it back asap?

There's a guide here that may help.

    https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/employment-and-support-allowance/help-with-your-esa-claim/fill-in-form-esa/

Please note that it says ESA50 but the forms are identical. You should fill in it with as much relevant information as possible. Before doing so you should also take a look at the descriptors to see which ones you think apply.

    LCW here https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/universal-credit-uc/uc-faq/limited-capability-for-work

    LCWRA here.

Thank you, spent all weekend sorting, but finally think i'm done.

Can i just ask, with my husbands mental health condition, he has had numerous therapies over the years but nothing recently as he seems 'unfixable' they ended a few years ago after them passing him from pillar to post session after session and not really knowing where to go next. so we have no recent 'evidence', but i do have all the diagnosis from a few years ago. do i send them?

Any supporting evidence you have should be sent along. If you are worried about not having any recent evidence, I would suggest explaining, in detail, why your husband no longer has therapy and the things he has tried in the past @summersunflower.

When filling out the form this was really really useful so thank you Poppy!

Can i ask how long roughly it should take to hear back?

Also if there is a guide that you recommend of what to expect etc at the assessment, how to prepare?

    Thank you again

I’m glad the guide helped. There’s a guide here to the WCA. It says ESA but UC is the same. It’s also based on face to face assessments because it mentions physical examinations, which only to those with physical conditions anyway.

Even then they don’t always do them, I’ve been to a couple of face to face assessments and never had any examinations.

Most assessments are by telephone, in which case the examinations would not apply.

Based on my own personal experience for my WCAs they’ve wanted to know what a typical day is like for me.

Timescales? That depends on the backlog in your area. Some have them quite quickly and others not so much. Potential it could be as long as several months.

There’s also a chance of paper based assessment if there’s enough of information. For this no assessment would be needed.
