in Start here and say hello!

Hi it's wonderful to meet everyone, I had no idea that scope had a community section. I'm so happy to see this!

So like I said I am fluorescent_duck, but everyone calls me duckie. I actually don't have a specific disability or condition. But I've been living with chronic pain for the last 4 years. Still fighting to get answers unfortunately. I have not long moved down to England from Scotland so I am still settling in. I work for a charity as a domestic abuse support worker working with children and families specifically in CAPVA. I absolutely adore my job if you have any questions feel free to ask! I might not have an answer right away but I'll definitely find out for you!

My hobbies include art (I studied it in college), gaming and reading. My absolute guilty pleasure is reading fanfiction. My favourite show/franchise is Star Trek. I am also a pagan. It's wonderful to meet you all ❤️

    I have fibromyalgia (diagnosed by reumotologists) so I can relate to the chronic pain.

    Well done on the job job you do working in domestic abuse and its nice to hear that you love your work and helping other people.

    Ah, you've so many interesting hobbies, I also love both reading and gaming. I'm also a good fan of Star Trek, though I've always had a softer spot for Star Wars. Deep Space 9 and The Next Generation are probably my two favourite Star Trek series.

    Any good books you're reading just now? I'm still making my way through the Malazan series.

    Hi! I'm currently deep into studying child physcology for my job. A lot of the titles sound very odd if you don't know my job. But I highly recommend "The Body Keeps the Score" it's been amazing not only for my work but my own healing.

    I'm also using "Healing through words" by Rupi Kaur. It's a gorgeous way to work through my own mental health. I really recommend.

    If your interested in more stuff about physcology let me know! I'll not hold it against you that you prefer Star Wars (promise)

    Ah, I haven't read much non-fiction. I think the last one I read was a few months ago, The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. It's an old, old book about the interaction of people and government.

    Psychology is really interesting, all the different ways our minds can work. How, while there are common threads, they are all unique too. I'll look out for those books, I've learnt a lot about how my own mind works since I was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago.

    What is your favourite star trek series though? I actually haven't watched some of the newer stuff, anything you recommend?

    The original series will always be close to my heart. I love how you can tell the set was made on a budget it's wonderful.

    Don't get me wrong the newer stuff like strange new worlds is amazing. There is literally a musical episode. But just something about it being so unpolished is just wonderful to me.

    Well everyone calls me Duckie. Still not sure why its the nickname that stuck. Nothing better than bright colours so I'm your friendly neighbourhood adult who dresses like an over grown toddler. 🤣
