edited November 2024 in Universal Credit (UC)

Hi, I am hoping someone could possibly help. My daughter currently receives carers allowance for looking after me & UC. She is pregnant & has been very unwell. She has sent 2 sick notes in to UC starting from 4th Sept & it will expire on the 30th Nov. She has also completed a questionnaire about her health for UC. She has not hadcan assessment yet. What I would like to know is if UC agree that she is not fit for work, would she get any extra money & can she also contine to claim carers allowance

    Hi,

If she is awarded LCWRA then she will get an extra £419 a month. (If just LCW then there is no additional money.)

However, if she receives Carers Element right now then she will lose that as one person cannot claim both LCWRA & Carers Element at the same time.

She will still be entitled to claim Carers Allowance, though that gets deducted from UC in full.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

She currently gets carers allowance & not the careers element

I understand from what you have said that she will still get her carers allowance, her UC minus the amount of CA she receives plus an additional £419 per month if she is awarded the LCWRA

Yes, that sounds right to me. 🙂

Just have to correct a slight typo I made in the earlier post, the exact amount is £416.19 for LCWRA.

Heya @Kalcy and a belated welcome to the community.

I can see you've already had your questions answered, but I just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello. 😊

If she's claiming carers allowance then her UC should also include carers element. Please ask her to check her journal to make sure that carers element is included. If it isn't then she'll need to report a change of circumstances and tell them she's caring for you. Her UC will then include carers element.

She should also ask for this to be backdated to when she qualified.
