the job centre never updated my appointee and they’ve been ringing my old appointment for the asessment and it never got done. I contacted pip through email and they said I need to call to figure out the next steps because my application has been closed apparently will I be able to reopen the same application? And would I be able to have someone other than my appointee do the asessment

    Hi

If your PIP claim has closed completely, not just been suspended, then you will need to start a totally new claim now.

Starting a new claim should mean that you can choose a new appointee.

Only you or your appointee can do the assessment. No-one else is allowed to do it on your behalf.

they said they started a new claim for me, does that mean it’s started all over again and I won’t have the backdated money from a year ago?

I’ve already told them it was never updated and they just started a new claim altogether just because of them not updating it and ringing the wrong person for the assessment. Now it will take me another year to get another assessment and same thing will probably happen again

I would say the best way forward here would be to continue with the new application, with the correct details AND complain about this mistake done by the DWP. You cannot guarantee the complaint will result in them reinstating the first claim date. So it is better to continue with the second claim now and wait to see what the result of the complaint is.

Can I ask how long you were waiting for your PIP assessment @nadekrkr? Just you said "another year", was this a review assessment or a new application assessment?

I’ve been waiting a year and a half for the assessment to decide wether I get pip I updated my appointee half a year ago so Thought they would’ve called the new appointee

So your initial application was over 13 months ago? I would still raise the complaint if the DWP was at fault for not properly updating appointee details when informed, but continue with the new claim. It cannot be guaranteed they will backdate your claim to a year and a half ago, so best to continue this claim now. You will need to have an assessment for PIP anyway so may as well sort that out sooner than later.
