President Zelensky is hopeful that the war in Ukraine could end sooner when Trump becomes president next year. Zelensky, sees a chance for a diplomatic solution and stresses the need to work towards achieving peace diplomatically next year with Trump's help.
Any changes in the UK's funding for Ukraine would depend on factors such as the progress of peace talks, the terms of any potential agreements, and the UK's foreign policy decisions. If current UK funds for Ukraine are not required in the future, they might be redirected to other areas like international aid, defence spending, or debt reduction. However, itβs still too early to predict any specific changes in funding commitments. Letβs all hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, bringing much needed relief, peace, and stability to the people of Ukraine who have endured so much.
Trump's proposed trade policies could hurt the UK economy, as he plans to impose tariffs of 10-20% on all U.S. imports, with even steeper rates of 60% and 100% on goods from China and Mexico. These measures would likely harm UK exports to the U.S. Given the potential changes across various areas, it's too early to predict how the broader UK-U.S. trade and other diplomatic relationships will unfold under Trump's administration.

Of course, the war in Ukraine and Gaza is to blame for everything, and not the constant, ever-increasing spending on the military needs of NATO countries and Great Britain in particular over the last decades. Under Trump (2016-2020), military spending also grew.
Do you think they will cut spending on the disabled for the sake of military spending or military spending for the sake of the disabled?

I really don't think Zalensky is spending Β£44 million @Catherine21 he is fighting a war against Russia and trying his best to save his country. I really would love to know where you read this rubbish.

Depends who is classed as Ukrainian.
Shelling and killing I think something like 15,000 Ukrainian russians in a decade leading up to Putins invasion may be seen outside of the Western news bubble as provocative.
I think if Boris Johnson had not diverted peace talks at the start of this when Putin really wanted a peaceful resolution it wouldn't have escalated.
Maybe now Trump is in its looking more hopeful that peace and negotiations can be put back on the Table again.
This can't come soon enough because it's spiralling out of control as according to reports Ukraine just destroyed an air defence worth Β£billions and Russia has retailated big time
We need peace now it's a global threat this war so whichever president will bring about peace between them will be fantastic π

And it's not going to be Trump.

Or Biden
How many Β£ Billions so far has been given by U.S in this under last Administration
I mean even Putin said himself any Countries funding a Ukraine Russian war will have domestic consequences for us
That's on top of fuel poverty crisis
War enriches wealthy only and the poor pay for it in blood. π

I notice you've replied with charts on NATO spending and a reference to disability spending. I find it a bit strange, as my response to Catherine was specifically about her question: "Trump said he can stop the Ukraine war overnight; if so, would that stop us funding them, and how does Trump being president affect us?" Your reply seems to be addressing issues that were not part of my original response.
My hope remains that all people living in war-torn countries will find the peace they deserve, an enduring peace that transcends any financial cost and is worth more than any budget or flow chart.

3bn cut from welfare, 3bn for Ukraine.
what a rather coincidental sum.

Anything given to the Ukraine does not come out of the welfare budget. There is only 1 pot of money.

Yes it does . Nye Bevan resigned over this because NI pot was being dipped into . They were dipping into it to pay for costly wars at the time and why things like dentist and prescription glasses were going back into private sector.
HHe was absolutely disgusted and resigned because he had spend most of his political life trying to create free at point of use healthcare as doctors Medical Association and Tories did not want the creation of healthcare equal and accessible to all regardless of a person's circumstances and affordability, so was not too happy that his party was dipping into the NI pot.
One thing it shows is they usually take it off the poorest and punch down. π

I beg to differ.

That's up to you but I think you have heard of IMF and financial I situations.
When government spending is out of control and inflation is high there are usually ground rules for futher borrowing
It had a set of conditions snd if you look at those conditions you will see where they have to cut back on spending.
That causes austerity on people they get a double whammy high Inflation and austerity π

Central banks and all that never lose out if they print money and give it out like during a pandemic ...sure you can borrow and have printed money but they are private and will call it all back with interest and conditions they also write up their own terms and regulate themselves so that's what bank bail out are we privatise the profits royaly screw up and socialise the loses ...taxpayer picks up the tabs They also have profitable investment weapons Oil and other lucrative business investments. π

Not sure if you are in U.S but personally I think most of your Past Presidents warned of this all over their publications I think even up John F Kennedy who wanted to break from federal ......and got his head blown off.
Well Past Presidents documented the dangers π

Nightcity, the Β£3 billion figures represent two entirely separate financial commitments that should not be confused or combined. One is tied to the UK's internal budget limitations, while the other reflects Britainβs global responsibilities and strategic interests. These sums are distinct, with no connection between them. It is important to clarify that support for Ukraine is not funded by cutting welfare spending.
Attempting to link these figures creates a misleading narrative that distorts the true nature of government fiscal policy and national priorities. It is disheartening to see comments that misunderstand this issue, as they contribute to division and mistrust, rather than promoting informed, constructive discussion.

Yes and restricted by financial constraints, restrictions and conditions any position in politics has to accommodate and prioritise the needs of the people as well as those that impose the conditions financially when the budgeting.
I don't feel any Party or President is free from those constraints so it wouldn't really matter who is running the show in some ways.
Austerity is handed down regardless of who is in other than what they have to choose as a priority .
Anyone who thinks war has no baring on us is frankly deluded
Let's hope peace comes ASAP π
