UC Reveiw terrified
Hello, I'm sorry to trouble anyone for advice please. I have multiple mental health issues and chronic pain. Been on UC 2 years. Got message for a review phone call. Will ask for ID and bank statements. I'm struggling mentally and this came as shock and they petrifying me. I have bank and savings of around £1000. I know I'm not above savings threadhhold, but I have credit cards and PayPal. I pay alot on my cards. My question is, do they have to see full bank statements, as I mean what payments are going to? ..... but also with PayPal, can they view with What Card items were paid with? I've put bigger payments on my credit cards via PayPal. Do I have to tell then about my PayPal? I really am struggling with this, I told them in my journal that God's Saints would be terrified of them. I was in a state writing it, can't stop when it happens, the trauma drives my emotions. I have no support . No support. I can not contact mental health, they caused CPSTD. I won case on them 6 years ago. I will contact my Dr and inform them that I'm struggling. I'm not showing them all my spendings...why can they just not look at ingoing and outgoing? It's not right. I'm age 60 now anyway, so I don't matter. If someone can please advise where I stand legally, because unless they suspect me of Fraud, then why do they need rifle through my payments!

UC are doing millions of these checks, I went through one last year and loads of others on the forum have been through one. They are to make sure your payments are correct from a financial perspective.
Yes, you must submit bank statements for any and all accounts.
After you submit the information they are looking for, you will have a telephone interview.
You'll be asked a series of scripted questions about other potential sources of money, ISA's, PayPal, property, premium bonds etc.
Then questions about some of your banking transactions, which might not appear to make any sense (mine didn't).
I myself (as capital was over £6k on paper) was then asked to submit individual bank statement pages showing my Cost of Living payments.
I've seen others who were asked for PayPal account statements after the call.
Then I had a journal message saying my review was complete and my payments were correct.

Pleaae may I ask, what bank statement pages are initially asked for? Is it the Full Month of transactions, or the overall In and out goings? Thank you

They have to be full month bank statements with your name & address on, containing all transactions.

It is standard procedure now for them to get bank statements it happened to me recently when i was moved from ESA support group after migration letter onto UC.I was similarly anxious about it all still not happy about the enforced changes but sadly nothing much we can do about it as they change the system when they want.

You do not need to provide credit card statements.

Hello all,
I'm moved from IR-ESA to CB-ESA last year and remain in still in a poor shape from one of these reviews that landed a week ago. Like @Nobodyspecial I have nobody to support me physically or emotionally.
No sooner had a neighbour taken everything to the PO for me I received a call from a DWP manager assuming me that it was only to check that I still held more than £16, 000 in capital. My claim was OK. Why they needed so much information I don't know. Perhaps I'm developing paranoia.
Anyway, today I received one document back so my letter, etc has been opened. Now, I'm wondering when I'll get an answer and this particular trauma will be over.
How long do customer reviews usually take @poppy123456 ?
Thanks, Zipz

Then when they rifle through my transactions they see PayPal, I guess they will ask for that too? But my credit cards, I'm not doing this, I'm not coping. I've not even done anything wrong, I've not got huge savings, but I feel like I'm guilty like I've done something terrible.....they don't know about my PayPal account, it wasn't relevant when I applied. I don't have anything on my paypal account, my balance is always empty. But it's my credit card transactions that are on my PayPal, and some of them are extremly personal, but they won't find holidays or days out on there thats for sure, ive bareky left the house in 5 years. I'm damn old, I'm disabled and have suffered extreme domestic abuse that left me disabled physically and emotionally...why does this world hate me so much, I try, I try, I try my best, never have hurt anyone....I just need some peace, I can't even speak to a Dr. I'm not bloody doing this. My mental health is spiralling, and I can't convince myself that I've not done anything, my brain is just going over and over trying to remember if I've anything wrong. 1. They didn't know about my paypal. 2. They didn't know about my credit cards. 3. I had a payment from my ex who who bought my Daughters old PC. 4. Personal transactions.

These checks are being done against millions of claims, it's nothing personal and they don't think you've necessarily done anything wrong. You have been randomly selected as I myself was along with many others.
Telling UC that you have a PayPal account or credit cards are not conditions of claiming.
They are now interested in PP accounts only because these checks are based around finances and PP can be used to hold money in the form of a positive balance.
They cannot look at credit card statements, they told me this September 2023 and I've not heard anything to suggest that has changed.
Some people are asked for PayPal statements following the telephone interview, others are not.

They are not checking because they think you’ve done something wrong. They are checking millions of people and this has been going on for quite sometime. We’ve had many threads regarding this here.
With any means tested benefits they can review you at anytime and this applied to the old legacy benefits too.

Are you sure? Because I never have money coming to me from PayPal, and my balance is $1.79. From an old transaction in dollars. I never have held a balance on PayPal, but I use it as protection when I pay things via my cards. I'll never do that again now....I'd rather pay direct with my credit card and take the risk, rather than having to answer to these people. They no doubt will ask because they will see PayPal transaction on my account...I know they will ask. I keep getting manic, eating my diazepam to block this out, because I don't cope with these situations. I have zero help or support. The reason for that is because my local MHT made a hideous mistake 7 years ago, they traumatised me beyond belief. Police at my door, being questioned. And they were Wrong. They were wrong. Followed on with long Complaints procedure I took out against them. Even other workers were shocked at what these 3 other mental health team people did, with zero grounds and no justification. I Won the case, I say won, what I mean is the Complaint was Upheld and I received an apology. I'd rather die then ever have contact with the MHT here again. So I have no support to get through this. No friends, no family. So this, this is so immense for me to deal with. I am literally terrified of them

Yes one of the ways PayPal can be used is to store money in the form of a positive monetary balance.
Not everyone uses it that way though, I don't I use it for outgoing payments only.
I don't know what else I can write to reassure you, I stand by my previous posts as correct and accurate information.

I'm going to Close my UC account down. I just can't do this right now. I can't have it hanging over my head at this time, I'm not mentally stable enough to cope. December is always a difficult month for me, so much trauma, it's too much.
I'll close it down till I'm more stable. I'll get by on my credit cards.
Thank you all for your Kind help. I know you try your best to reassure me, but I just can not cope at this time.

Even if you close your UC claim you will still need to go through this review process and send them what they’ve asked for. You will also need a telephone appointment too. If you don’t do this then they could ask you to repay everything you’ve received.

I know I'll have to face it, but I can't do it now. If I close my account then maybe they will give me more time once I can cope. I've not done anything, but I'm terrified.
I will tell them not to send me anymore money. I'll provide what they want, but can't do it now.
One thing, on my transfers and payments, I use swear words for reference, that is something that I'm worrying about also.
I've left many messages asking to speak to a manager. I think I'm having a break down, I don't know why and I can't stop these feelings. I'm going to phone my Dr.. or 111.

Dear @Nobodyspecial I think you're a remarkable person, somebody very special. Please don't drop your UC claim. You need and deserve that money.
Please listen to @poppy123456 and other very knowledgeable people on these forums. I know it's terrifying. I've had a scare this week and it'smade me physically and mentally unwell.
However, I would certainly not worry about your bank references! The bank isn't bothered. The DWP won't be bothered either.
You know you haven't done anything wrong. Just give them what they ask. No more. No less.
Sending hugs 🫂 Zipz

Hello @Nobodyspecial.
Unless you have more than £6,000 in savings, they don’t look into how you’ve spent your money. Even if you have had over £6,000, they only care about what you’ve spent it on if they think you’ve deliberately spent money to make yourself eligible for more Universal Credit (UC).
The words you use in your bank transfers shouldn't matter or cause any problems. If you’ve spent £500 a month on takeaways, gambling, or a hobby, they won’t be interested in that, especially if your total savings are below £6,000. Whatever it is you’re worried about, please don’t let it stop you from claiming money you’re entitled to. It’s better to get support than to put yourself into debt as an alternative.
It sounds like you’re having a tough time, and I’m glad to hear you’re planning to speak to your doctor for support.

But lots of people here say that they do ask questions on what you spend money on. And then they will want to see my PayPal....I do not have any PayPal balance, but all my spending with my credit cards are on there. I don't want them to see my credit cards....it won't stop there will it. I just feel so lost and exhausted, if it just could of been past December time, just so I could catch a breath.

They will not ask to see your credit card statement because that money isn’t yours anyway because it’s a credit card.
Of course you will always see some negative comments where they’ve asked questions about spending but the majority of people having these reviews have had no problems. Once the phone call is done and statements are sent that’s likely the end of it and they’ll tell you the review is complete.
I do agree it’s come at the wrong time but when is the right time for a review like this? Even if you did request your UC to close you will still need to send what they’ve asked for by the date they told you.
Please do reconsider closing your claim.
