Hi all, I really need some advice. Does anybody know if you can have a full case review in under 2 years. In December 2022 I received a letter informing me I had been selected for a full case review for housing benefit. I submitted all my evidence and received a confirmation email that everything had gone through. I had not heard anything back so forgot all about it. Just today I received a letter from them saying the same thing that I have been selected for a housing benefit full case review. I have sent a email to the benefits team in my borough and have informed them that I have already done this in 2022 and attached my confirmation o recieved from them.
Is this normal a full case review twice in the space of 15 months?
thanks guys

It's totally at random who they pick. It's just a coincidence that it's you amongst the chosen ones again. You will need to make sure you send them what they've asked for.

There's been a few members here recently that are going through the same thing for their housing benefit. As it's a means tested benefit they yes they can review you at anytime, even if nothing has changed.

Hey @meymay93 please try not to worry, reviews are perfectly normal, they just need to make sure everything's ok.

I'm sorry it's made you feel this way. The review doesn't mean you've done something wrong, they are just checking your claim is correct.

Do you have someone that can help you with this? Maybe a friend or family member? You will need to send them what they've asked for, which I'm guessing is bank statements?

    Question

With all these reviews that the government keeps doing for every benefit out there, what happens if some people are not able to reply? Not able give them all that they are asking for because of their disability or mental health?

What if these people don't reply? What happens to these people? Does the government just stop giving them financial support putting them at risk of homelessness?

This must have happened to a number of people over the last two decades.

With any means tested benefits you need to send what they ask for otherwise your benefits can be suspended.

Hi, i also need some guidance on housing benefits for me and my son , looking for a 2 bedroom property to rent. This is because we have been bidding for all this year but now giving up to look for private property. My son has special needs, lives in a carehome but he needs to get out as soon as we succeed to get a suitable property.

How does housing benefit work in our case. Im new to the system. Please advice.

If you're a working age person then you will not be able to claim for help with the rent through Housing benefit. Help with the rent will be through Universal Credit (UC) known as housing element.

UC is a means tested benefit so whether there's any entitlement will depend on your circumstances. If you have capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming. You can put your details into a benefits calculator to see what it comes up with.

    https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/

The only other issue you may have is finding a landlord who will accept a benefits tenant. Many landlords these days will refuse. If you're lucky enough to find one they may ask for a guarantor.

Then all you need to do is report a change of circumstances on your journal when you move into a property and your UC will include housing element.

If your son is named on a tenancy agreement then he will also need to do the same with his UC.

I have no idea if Social Services can be a guarantor for you, sorry. You'll need to ask them.
