If someone claims carrers allowance for looking after you would you up go down ?

    Carers allowance is deducted in full from any UC entitlement so financial gain to claiming it.

    Carers element of UC can be claimed providing the person you’re caring for claims a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care.

    However the same person can’t claim carers element at the same time as the LCWRA element.

    I have a non dependant son who works full time will this affect my housing benefit and council tax after I migrate ?

    I see from previous threads you get PIP, does that include Daily Living?

    If so, no non dependant deductions will be made to your Housing Element paid under Universal Credit.

    Each local authority has different rules for Council Tax Reduction, so it's difficult for anyone on here to advise on that aspect.

    he’s moved home after a change in my health for the worse to help.

    I was wondering about carers allowance for him but seems it could make us worse off in a sense.

    Navigating this and hospital appointments and the rest is taxing.

    I only just received my migration notice so trying to figure things out really. I have within 3 months I guess.

    Im going to hold fire and not rush to do it, makes no sense but it is inevitable.


    such a stress at the worse time for me.

    One day at a time, not easy at my age!

    I’m just thankful of this site and advice and support from my son!

    Carers Allowance can't be claimed if the person giving care earns over £151 a week from working.

    As your son works full time that would likely exclude him?

    As your son is working full time he will not be able to claim carers allowance for looking after you.

    If your ESA doesn't include the Severe disability Premium (it wouldn't unless your son is either registered blind or claims a qualifying disability benefit himself) then you'll be financially better off by claiming UC. UC with the LCWRA element pays more than ESA Support Group. For someone that's 25 and over, it's about £120/month more than ESA Support Group.

    According to that benefit calculator entitled to im worse off £11 a week council tax wise

    but according to the rest of the calculation £27 overall better off I think that was a week can’t remember

    so balances out I guess with a small increase

    he works locally and comes home at lunch.

    I see so it’s in my interest to start my migration now. Or soon. I just want to get past this time of year because in my years of experience people are no on the ball and distracted. Well some. Had a horrible experience with benefits at this time a few years back.

    The earnings limit for someone to be able to claim carers allowance is £151/week. As he works full time his earnings will be more than that limit so he won't be able to claim.

    I would personally wait until the new year to claim now because it's very close to Xmas. Many people find the process of claiming very stressful, mostly due to fear of the unknown. I wouldn't want you to feel even more stressed, especially this time of year.

    When you do claim your Income Related ESA and housing benefit will continue for 2 weeks. Your first UC payment will be about 5 weeks after you submit your claim.

    I’ve got till March.

    But maybe just get it filled out by mid January.

    looks like carers allowance would t work then.

    Your right just left this part of the year pass and avoid getting any more stressed with it then face it mid January

    I’ve got till March but thought maybe mid Jan to get it done not sure if I’m being foolish doing that quickly. That said if I’m better off maybe why wait.
    This UC seems a different kettle of fish altogether. I did like how things works well I got used to it I guess. Never been good with change.

    Some UC transfers go smoother than others.

    It can take time, but once everything is correct the claims generally run really well.
