Seeking advise for a 19yrs full time university student who most recently lost his mother to cancer.
1). Can he claim housing benefits as his uni is in Newcastle whilst his home is in London.
2). Can he apply for help with funeral payments?
Any advise with a way forward will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @onajoe:
Is this young man on any other benefits like disability benefits?
My guess is that his local Citizen's Advice Bureau might be a good starting point.
Hi @Debbie_Scope Is this something you could comment on? -

Only disabled students who receive PIP / DLA and those who have children can claim housing benefit.

Hi @onajoe,
There is information on the government website about Funeral Payments and who is eligible. Generally speaking he will need to be on a means-tested benefits in order to qualify.
The Money Advice Service also has information about Help Paying for a funeral.
Did Mum have a will? Could it be that her funeral is paid for out of her estate?
Turn2us has good information about Full time students and Benefits.
It's a really difficult time trying to work everything out when dealing with the loss of a loved one. I hope this has been helpful so far and please do come back to us if we can be of further help.
Best wishes
Debbie
